PatrickAWlson Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Can't run IL2 anymore. The game runs fine but Rift overlays a "Now Playing" popup that can't be got rid of. There was an Rift update yesterday to 1.31.0. Any assistance is appreciated
Murleen Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Yesterday I had Rift Home pop up over IL-2, and I got back to the game by using a touch controller to select the game icon on the rift dashboard task bar. The icon was just some wiggly lines, but matched what was shown in "now playing"
-332FG-Gordon200 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 My Rift has stopped working since the update. When I tried to start IL*2 the Steam VR tab said Rift wasn't connected and began the game in full screen even tho I have it set to launch in VR. I'm currently reinstalling the Oculus software hoping to solve the problem. I'd forgotten how long that takes.

-332FG-Gordon200 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 After reinstalling Oculus and setting up sensors etc again I launched IL*2 and a pop up said I needed to uncheck "Run as administrator" in properties>compatibility of the Oculus launcher. I then rebooted and launched IL*2 and everything came up as it should. Not sure what the culprit was. The last couple days there have been updates to Windows10, Nvidia driver and Oculus.
PatrickAWlson Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Reboot cured it. It was bound and determined that I was going to marvel at the wonder of my new virtual home. Meanwhile I just wanted to play the f***ing game. I wonder what makes tech companies or anybody else for that matter think that shoving content up the consumer's ass is a great idea. 1
PatrickAWlson Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Happened again. The Oculus home app insists on running. This helps: 1
dburne Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 It has never really bothered me, however I kind of get into Rift Core 2.0 and Dash also. I have been running it since Jan. Back when we used to be able to disable Home from launching using Rift Core 2.0 I did some testing ( just flying in my sims) and never really saw a noticeable difference between having it running or not. I think it does a pretty good job of closing out the "environment" when a game is launched. I do agree though users should be able to have a choice on whether to have it running or not.
Lensman Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 The new Oculus software is a bug-ridden piece of zh!t ... I can't start IL-2 directly anymore. When I start it from inside Oculus the f'ing desktop gets in the way. The desktop doesn't work properly with ANY controllers and when I exit IL-2 it places me on the SteamVR home environment NOT the Oculus home! This has all happened because Oculus forced an update on me that disabled the mark-1 Oculus home that DID work properly! I love the hardware but the software from this company is appalling! Not ready for use and they don't listen to customers. AMATEURS!!!

Not sure what you mean by your desktop getting in the way? Are you talking in the Oculus Home environment it gets in the way? When I exit IL-2, I am always placed in the Steam VR environment and have to close it to get back to the Oculus Home environment. It has been this way for me since day 1. One of the reasons I so wish 1CGS would support the Rift natively.
PatrickAWlson Posted October 14, 2018 Author Posted October 14, 2018 Quite often when I start it the dashboard is there and an application is running. That app was the new "home". I disabled that and now there is some odd app that just shows "now playing" in a spinner. IL2 is running in the background and the IL2 sounds are coming through the rift. I mess with it (stop this, start that, use task manager to kill the other) until it works. Once it's working I'm good. Working on a sequence that will always work but have yet to figure that out. I just reinstalled Oculus software and that did not help. This started with the Oculus 1.31 update.
dburne Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Wow, I am just not seeing anything like that at all guys, not sure what is going on there. Based on some feedback I have seen on the Oculus Forums, sounds like there is some strange things going on for some users. I would highly suggest when you come across them to submit feedback on it to Oculus through the desktop app describing what it is doing. Or even submitting as a bug report.
