Hi All,

My apologies if this has already been discussed, but will B17s be included in Bodenplatte?  As there is no mention in the list of planes on the page I guess not flyable, but will they be available as targets for the Luftwaffe?

Cheers

No, no 4 engine bombers are planned. The 3D modeling work required is huge (enough to model two or three fighters), and the AI is structured such that every gunner is a separate AI, which makes formations of big bombers have too big a hit on performance.

There is some possibility that an AI only B-25 may make it into the game, and may become flyable in the future. But AFAIK, the devs have ruled out strategic bombers for the above and more reasons.

Bodenplatte is about tactical ground attacks, not strategical bombings, so a B17 would not make too much sense. But maybe the B25 will get flyable at some time, I would be happy with this one, too.

They should put B26 Marauder because Allied Forces will lack of a bomber plane, when german players will be available to use He-111 H6/H16 or Ju88 if mission makers make it available, and secondly because sure that player love to play bomber plane, and maybe they want to play an US/UK bomber career, even if it is not 100% historical accuracy.

But there is one huge thing that need to be made before on bomber plane: actually only plane's pilot can take control of bomber sight and bombs' control, they should make it available to front gunner, because it should be more interesting to have one pilot who fly his plane, and one guy doing his job on bomber sight.

Thanks for the responses guys.  A bit dissapointing but I can see the logic for sure.

You will be able to hunt down A20s and AI-controlled B-25s, so you should have more than enough targets.

His frustration is plausible since The Great Battles is an excellent simulator and we don't currently have anything so vast and complete.

Logically we understand devs.

As much as the B-26 makes sense in a Battle of Bodenplatte sense, it makes less strategic sense than the B-25 all things considered. The B-25C/Mitchell II we're getting as an AI plane (hopefully a flyable later) can be used on East, West, Pacific, North Africa, etc. and flown by multiple services. The B-26 is mostly (though not strictly) a European theatre aircraft. We can't use it on Eastern maps in a historical way and its use in the Pacific, particularly in the 1944/1945 variation they would need to build, was essentially non-existent.

I don't know if people appreciate how smart a move it is and just how convenient the B-25C/Mitchel II's use in Bodenplatte is.

Now if you said... Let's have both. Yeah, I'm good with that :)

The current A20 is a masterpiece, so I really hope they make the B25 flyable in the future.

Given that any US bomber formation will be strictly limited in numbers due to performance caps, I'd probably get more mileage interacting with bombers on the bodenplatte map if I was flying 1943 era Wilde Sau 109s and 190s against a stream of RAF Wellingtons.

I do not think that the B-25 will be available only for AI.
The work of the devs have to put in modeling the aircraft for AI is almost the same as modeling the aircraft for players. That's why I think that sooner or later we will get B-25 under control even in the form of a premium aircraft.
We have to forget about B-17 or B-24, because the scale of theaters in Great Battles is focused on tactical, not strategic aviation, the bombers in the Career for example need airfield, not just spawn in the sky as we can see in il-2 1946, tactical bombers flying over +, - 200 kilometers to the front line, and the strategic/heavy bombers have some 1000 kilometers to the target, you want to waste your time for that fly?, i hope not, me too ? . Therefore, you should not expect them.

With respect, that is not even almost true.

The bulk of the work (aside from flight model) will be the internals/cockpit/gauges/systems/rigging. Things you don’t need for an AI only aircraft.

So, while I think we’ll get it at some point, it won’t be because most of the work is already done with an AI version - even though yes it does help. For instance the AI aircraft will still need the LOD’s.

Honestly, as a fan of American bombers, I would like them to focus on the current A-20 introducing improvements or new versions, eg A-20G. And then it would be the turn of the B-25.
Here are the A-20 versions that I would like to see.

A-20B with the Russian top turret

A-20G with Bendix turret.

This plane just need other modifications/version, perhaps for Bodenplatte or the next DLC from later fights on the Eastern Front.
