Zooropa_Fly Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 I always knew there was something wrong with my copy of RoF.. Did a QM with the Dr1 vs (infinate) Dr1's set to 'ace'. 33% (unlimited) fuel and unlimited ammo. It's immediately obvious that in FC1, I can now kill pilots. This may sound strange but it's something I pretty much never do in RoF. Now I seem to be able to assassinate pilots almost at will (not quite, a few still don't seem keen to die). I stopped at 51 bots shot down, which took 42 minutes. Nothing special about shooting bots I know so no need to remind me, but there's something very different about my shooting in the two games. It seems I suddenly have the shoooting effectiveness of many RoF'ers that I feel isn't attainable to me in that game for some reason. Interesting.. The Dr1 seems much more stable now that I've had a good go in it, doesn't have that nasty kickback the RoF one does. I flew aggressively most of the time and never lost control once. Don't think I stopped any engines in the 51, very few at least. Most were pilot kills. In RoF there would have been probably no pilot kills and a good number of flamers - enemy planes generally bludgeoned to death without anything hitting the pilots. Wings take a lot of hits now (since the recent update), but as I said the engines seem rather tough. So I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans when we have a few planes, map, and a MP scene !
unreasonable Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 To get pilot kills in RoF you had to have either a direct line of fire onto the head/shoulders area, or from close to 90 degrees from the side or underside, so that your shots could miss the front edge of the fuselage hit box. I think that in FC the bullets behave like AP shots in BoX - ie they can penetrate through hit boxes and not just do some damage at the first hit box they meet and then stop. I am not 100% sure - the easiest way to check this is with a top wing mounted gun or an observer gun, neither of which we will have for a while. Since the reports are that the wing shedding has been toned down, it looks like it is time to play some more FC, especially since my BoX career pilot was recently captured after using the Hartmann shooting technique and copping a propeller full of debris. (I always thought he was over-rated).
SeaW0lf Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 No more glass engines? No more wing shredding? That's good news. And what about glass tanks? A great number of fights in ROF end up being decided even before the merge, sometimes from 500+ yards away, both from engine and tank hits. If they can fix it, that would be super. I have to take them for a spin... But right now ROF is taking up my time.
US103_Baer Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 FC uses 'improved gunnery' does it not? That might account for the ease of taking out pilots at longer range too
Zooropa_Fly Posted October 18, 2018 Author Posted October 18, 2018 I feel that FC's gunnery is more like RoF's improved gunnery. Certainly bullet dispersion seems much tighter. 1
