Polkku Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Hello fellow Ju-88 and He-111 pilots. I fly these bombers quite a bit and have always been puzzled by the bombsight automations "drop speed". It seems to run a bit too fast if set properly and I have to constantly adjust the sight elevation to keep it on target. I tried to set the sight altitude by HUD help, so that target altitude would be considered, but that didn't help. I tried to set the speed for the sight a bit slower than indicated, so it would keep on the target (It worked and the sight kept on target, but the bombs went long). Is this a bug or am I missing something? Most people, and tutorials just use the manual mode, but I want to figure this out, since it's there.
ilmavoimat Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 True air speed will be higher than indicated air speed due to air density declining with altitude. There are conversion tables on the net but the easiest way to compensate is to do what you're already doing and manually adjust the bombsight airspeed until the cross hairs stay on the target.
Remontti Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 I don't know how to use it either and I have same observations about it that you pointed out. I usually bomb in the manual mode, but automode sure would be useful when target is covered by clouds. Please tell if you discover how to use it.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 No Auto mode wont help with clouds as you must still place the crosshairs on your target so if you cant see through the clouds you still miss like irl.. Often if it was cloudy they would just release bombs over target and hope they hit something. Manual and view mode would be the best. Also auto mode is terrible when releasing 2 large bombs like 250ms apart the release of the first bomb alters planes pitch and CG that bombsight does not adjust for when dropping 2nd bomb so it will always miss. No need to convert anything out of the game or use any out of game rescources the bombsight is not like the real one its a very simple point and click sight almost like warthunder. Set correct wind speed and deflection, airspeed, Altitude all Taken from the bombsight Info only and 50-2500KG bombs will land within 5 meters of the crosshair from 10,000M altitude even while you are using auto turn feature while releasing bombs same time.. (hundreds of times more accurate than modern day bombsights and dumb bombs on the US best bomber. )

So you can see the target while approaching but it gets obscured when you should drop the bombs. The crosshair drifts away from target in auto mode. I don't see much point using auto mode if you're supposed to constantly realign the crosshair to target until the bombs drop.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 On the topic of the auto mode in the bombsight - I remember when the sight used to track down smoothly. Now it seems to step down every second or so. Why is that? - and was that an attempt to make it more realistic? 1
Remontti Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 I noticed that OPs question was asked in Questions to Developers topic back in February 2017. Han replied that he needed more details and examples in private. I don't know if those details were ever provided.
Polkku Posted October 9, 2018 Author Posted October 9, 2018 I suppose anybody can test this in QMB in 5 minutes with HE-111 or Ju-88. You don't need IAS/TAS chart in this game since the bombsight dials show TAS. Just set the sight speed and alt and watch the crosshair constantly drop under the target at auto mode. I don't know if anybody posted a bug report of this yet.
E69_geramos109 Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Hi. I am having the same problems here and I am interested also on this method. Did you got any answer or is there someone who knows how to use the Auto mode? Thanks
Remontti Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Han replied that the jumpy movement is something they will take a closer look. And it got fixed with one of the patches. He didn't say anything about the auto-mode. I guess it is working as intended. I use the auto mode when approaching the target. I constantly re-adjust the crosshairs back to target. Just before drop I switch to manual mode and drop bombs. I think the auto-mode is very useful as it helps to take the right directon with crosswinds.
Deacon352nd Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to use this bombsight in manual mode?
