Janeco Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 After steam vr update my pc would just reboot in il-2 after a while, while on opencomposite everything works and I dare to say more smoothly then on steam Vr.

Wulfen Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 (edited) I have been using it the last few days, it definitely streamlines the process reducing overheads, so it`s a plus on that front. There is also a fix on the oculus reddit to reduce home 2.0 to bare minimum and black screen, reduces my GPU load to less to ~10% when oculus is fired up. Edited December 1, 2018 by Wulfen
dburne Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 How is this Open Composite better than Steam VR? I personally do not care for Steam and really wish 1CGS would implement native support for the Rift. But Steam VR seems pretty lean to me already. What advantage would running through Open Composite really have? I mean the Rift still has to go through two runtimes, Oculus and Steam VR or Oculus and Open Composite.

I can`t answer that, but all I can say it`s a hell of a lot smoother and more streamlined that what I had before with fluting between oculus and steam vr. It just seems to be quicker in the game starting and less hassle, consequently I would be surprised to find it not better on resources. Try it out and see, it`s a quick install and easy to remove. Also the oculus hack is a lot less taxing on the system/gpu as well, it`s like getting rid of bloatware. https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/8uf1sm/oculushomeless_use_dash_without_home_20/ Edited December 2, 2018 by Wulfen

dburne Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 I got a pretty nice performance boost just from the 3.007 update.

Janeco Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 on mine i just click launch on the launcher and it opens with opencomposite
ironk79 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 ok, doesnt work for me, switching back to steamVR, and than to Composite didnt solve the issue. ok, no big deal, at least it works with the extra step.

What advantage would running through Open Composite really have? I mean the Rift still has to go through two runtimes, Oculus and Steam VR or Oculus and Open Composite. I think what they're doing is mapping OpenVR API calls directly into Oculus runtime API calls, instead of building a multi-API aware library (which SteamVR is). This allows OpenComposite to be a bit leaner -- it doesn't have to account for any SteamVR / OpenVR type stuff, it just tightly binds to the Rift API and won't work with anything other than Rift. So yes, it's still two runtimes, Oculus and OpenComposite, but the OpenComposite portion is a lot 'thinner' than SteamVR. And the Oculus runtime is optimized tightly for Rift, so the combo is pretty lean also. Especially in IL2 it makes a difference because every ounce of CPU power you can claw back is important.

RedeyeStorm Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Great to be of help. By the way, I have no error message.
Panzerlang Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 I tried the opencomposite.ini fix suggestion, to try and stop IL2 playing sound through the Rift, but nada joy.
Blitzen Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 I feel a bit dim-I’ve gone to the site but can’t figure out where the download is....

You also need to create an .ini file and tell OpenComposite not to try to hook audio. Then IL2 will work with it. Instructions from another thread: Get the latest 64-bit DLL from https://ci.appveyor.com/api/projects/ZNix/openovr/artifacts/x64/openvr_api.dll?branch=master&job=Platform%3A+x64&pr=false In your IL-2 bin/game folder, rename the existing openvr_api.dll to (say) openvr_api-default.dll Copy over the 64-bit DLL you downloaded Create a opencomposite.ini in the same folder with one line with the text: enableAudio=False Start IL-2 via Steam as usual -- SteamVR should not start this time around, OpenComposite is hooking you directly to the Oculus runtime Ive done all this but it still does not work for me. Trying to open through steam menu it acts like it is about to start the game but then just stops. Nothing occurs. When I try to start the game through the Oculus app menu, the IL2 splash menu appears and says loading but it never does.
D13th_zaelu Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Small issue on my side. From time to time the Steam is starting and loading Steam VR. I do not have the game on Steam. While playing I hear o women voice saying: "one Moment" then Steam VR is starting and interrupting the game... I need to put HMD down close manually the darn thing that sometimes restarts in one minute. Anyone else had this?
piwakawaka Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) Has anyone got this working with the Oculus Quest over Link Cable? With today's OpenComposite 32-bit .dll I just get an IL-2.exe application error (0xc000007b) and it fails to run. With the 64-bit version nothing happens after clicking "run" in the launcher (which itself disappears). Edited July 17, 2020 by piwakawaka
