A-20B is an attacker, not a bomber. Just like IL-2s or Bf110s, both of which killed fighters in the war. IL-2s perform better in turnfights than Fw190s.

 

American nomenclature:

A = Attacker

B = Bomber

P = Fighter (Pursuit)

I tried the Bf109G-14 out of curiosity yesterday with the heaviest cannons (no bombs) etc in a Quick Mission.....

it shoots enemies alright but i could not destroy one enemy plane, let alone a tank or train strafing.

 

It seems an E7 does it better ... Something wrong with the G-14 in Il2?

IMO the damage model change has really made it tough to bring down AI attackers/bombers in particular. Sometimes you still get quick fires or pilot kills, but much more often you pour fire into the bad guys' wings and tail and they keep flying on like nothing happened. I'm talking with mineshells here, not US .50 cal.

 

Likewise, often you can collide with an enemy plane and your own ship will disintegrate while theirs is relatively undamaged.

Not fair ! It seems that the devs took sides for the allies, with a Mig3 or i16 getting trains seems easier.

After 5 runs strafing i got ONE artillery cannon, and then a tree got me, sick: mission completed!. But i like this G-14 ..
