Le_troll Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 (edited) Hello evreyone, Le troll, cheking in for the first time here. I've just bought tank crew early access, and I must say I quite like it so far. Although I'm not an expert nor as passionate as some of you guys are in regards to tanks, I'm a simulation enthusiast. I can buy almost any sim as long as it is as close as possible to the real thing, and immersive (I even bought subcommand at one point, a quite deeply simulated sim about submarines. There was not much excitement to be had there, but it was interesting nonetheless). Of course, I've bought several air sims through the years (probably too many to name them all since I started gaming in the 90's), the most recent being DCS (I own the M2000 and UH-1H modules). Up until now, I've never flown on IL-2, I knew the game of course and its incredible damage models, but the WW2 era warbirds was not really my thing, despite all the challenger that come with this type of plane. Like many of us I guess, I've also played war thunder (ground forces exclusively). I really enjoyed the low tier tanks, the gameplay features such as the believable ballistics, the armor penetration calculations, and the visualisation of the shells penetrating the armor and its effects on the vehicle and the crew... Unfortunately, I've come to hate it for multiple reasons: grind, battle rating compression which I find to be extremely unfair most of the time, spawn killing still unadressed years after release, lack of battle modes or even simple scenarios, and the fact that this game looks more and more like a twitch shooter than anything else. So, I've been looking for a decent tank simulation, and Tank crew popped up. I watched some videos and was quite happy with what I saw. I jumped in just yesterday and I'm struggling to configure the turret controls as I want them to be... But for that matter, I'm gonna head to the "tank control reference chart", I guess it's a more appropriate topic to have a chat about control schemes. Anyways, glad to be part of what appears to be a pretty mature and reasonable community... That's a change ? Cheers. Le troll Edited September 21, 2018 by Le_troll 2
Eicio Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Yes the community is really nice here indeed, for the Il-2 great battle series itself just wait a couple of months, there are usually some sales every now and then so you could try some warbirds with a great discount. To compare with DCS you've got to know that the cockpit here aren't clickable but overall Il-2 is more enjoyable than DCS when it comes to warbirds, there is a lot more content if you like WWII, the game runs smoother and is graphically stunning so you should definitely give it a chance some day. There is also more people online here than DCS if you like flying with people.
