Serious thoughts and feedback for Career & AI

Feathered iv mentioned speech. I don't speak Russian or German. Hard for me to appreciate just how good or bad it is.

Take a look at the very good English language voice mod - I have been using that in my German Career and so I can at least understand what is being said. The voice actor for the German side sounds just like my Bavarian guitar teacher!  There is also far less radio interference over the voices, which I prefer.

I agree that some of the criticism is misplaced with the current state of the game: I also find that enemy AI certainly do not just turn to the left all of time, fortunately for me, as that is the manoeuvre  I find hardest to counter, since one generally cannot do yoyo's against a MiG in an F-2. Similarly on ground attacks, it looks to me as though each AI plane is selecting at random from the possible targets in the area - including the bridge.

The formations are still a real problem - escort missions in particular demonstrate this.

Unfortunately when someone makes a suggestion as to how the AI could be tweaked to improve a specific area you tend to just get a chorus of "No, the AI sucks!" rather than a constructive discussion.

It's not the sound of the voices, but rather the poor scripting, inadequate variety and crushing repetition.

To put it in a nutshell; On the last career mission I flew, I counted my wingman repeatedly shouting Engaging enemy, its close! 238 times before I was blessedly brought down by flak.

Cybermat47 and Godspeed,

There is a reason half of the forum has this user in the ignore list. He just talks in circles so do urself a favot and be part of the sane people who just ignores :)

Ah ok, I do find it useful though when they call direction and distance, gives me an idea of where to look

Yes - those are quite annoying. There is just significant bugs in radio comms that have not been fixed for years and have nothing to do with sound quality. My favorite is when AI crashlands and then proudly says "returning to base, out of fuel".

Yeah, its probably more accurate to say that was the second to last career mission I flew.  The last one was on the weekend and I was chasing a 109 around in circles on the deck for more than ten minutes.  I'd put some holes in his fuel tank with my last few rounds and decided to see how long it took for him to run out of fuel or do something else.  As I followed closely behind (he was turning to the right, like all good Germans in those days) my pilot avatar was yabbering away that he was engaging a different enemy 7km away.  Then another 3km away, then back to 7km again.  I've even had times where my pilot announced I was apparently engaging an unseen enemy at 10km.  I don't even know if the viewing distance extends that far...

Does it say that in a subtitle ? I've had some I16 comrades call bingo fuel and sod off, and leave me to cover the bombers solo. Not noticed this particular one where an AI goes down though.

Yes, in radio comms subtitles. I can't recall if they say "out of ammunition" or "our of fuel" however. It might have something to do with the fact that they maybe damage their guns during crashlanding and trigger AI RTB decision - which then triggers this radio message. Anyway - what Feathered_IV wrote above is even more annoying (random engaging message spam).

As for sound quality - I speak a little Russian and can understand what the russian comms are saying quite clearly. The german ones are incomprehensible to me however (I think the actor was a little too excited when recording?).

I understand the developers will need to add english language comms for BoBP. Maybe it will be a good time to revisit comms functionality for them.

My friend still plays singleplayer, but can you honestly say that you don’t understand people not wanting to play multiplayer after seeing some of the stuff that shows up in chat?

No, I honestly don’t understand it.  I don’t let idiots dictate how I spend my time.

Nor do I Robin.

Says the guy who keeps telling everyone to play VSS or multiplayer. Guess that makes you that idiot who dictate people what to do.

Some small fixes to career came with 3.006 :)

Player wingmen won't be captured by the enemy if the player finishes a Career mode mission above the enemy territory;

But sadly there was no mention about difficulty option to put all AI controlled aircraft to ACE on both sides.

They made some campaign changes and some ground navigation AI changes - unfortunately no air AI changes.  Still, I know that they are aware.

Hopefully we get something in 3.007,still 3.006 looks like a step in the right direction regarding career fixes.

Thanks Pat also for your continued work on your Campaign Generator  :good:

Tested Career on Bf 110 Today.

First missions was to attack artillery positions with 6 Planes fully loaded with bombs.

First i noticed that there are no escort i was not so surprised about this because there is never.

At target i took out few howitzers and got report of enemy plane activity.

Looked around and saw Migs already taking out my flight members from the sky.

I decided to attack them and dropped all the bombs so my plane can be used as escort for rest of my flight.

Took down one mig and saw at least 5 or 6 more half of them now attacking me since my flight at this point is almost dead.

Few moments later i was gunned down and there was nothing i could do.

Still same story nothing changed you cant fly 110 Career since ground attack missions does not have fighter escort.

Still best way to survive at least some degree is to not care about your flight or mission and of course your fellow pilots who be lost anyway.

I haven't tried a 110 career for a while, but I've been in situations with other careers where the odds are totally against me. Playing Iron Man, I see survival as the win. Try not to play the career like you need to succeed with every mission.

Is there something game breaking about the Ju-52?  I have never encountered one in any of the campaigns.  Even in the winter phase of the Stalingrad battle. Why is it so hard?

I been playing Iron Man since beginning and old stumovik as such.

You should try 110 career and see whats the issue.

Problem has nothing to do with how the mission went like did it get completed or not.

Its about the mission designing and AI.

I dont know what developers where thinking when they decided that 110 does not need Escort on bombing missions.

I been surviving with 110 career to point where i had around 100 kills in air and flight only lowest ranked pilots in the squadron because pilots live 0 to 2 missions.

If this would be realistic luftwaffe would have been destroyed in France 1940.

There are two kinds of careers what works more than others.

They are Fighters or Bombers.

Ai cant take down bombers because they are so dumb and die to gunners.

You dont have to fly bomber to see it, just fly bf 109 missions and see how your pilots get killed by Pe-2's or by escorting your own bombers and watch how VVS kill them selfs in process.

For people who thinks this is completely BS go fly 110 career on even moderate because if you test hard i can assure you wont survive to see even one chapter.

I have noticed that in my Kuban VVS campaign (GvIAP 16) I have NEVER encountered Ju-87, Bf-110, He-111 or Ju-52 in 30+ missions (despite them being on the map in Kerch peninsula). I only see 109s, 190s and Hs-129.
