In hindsight I would do the following:

Get into it with the logitech 3d joystick. It has rudder twist control as well as a throttle. I used this for at least 3 years.

If you are hooked and can't get enough then go straight to the good stuff......

1. VKB gunfighter MCG Pro joystick or Virpil Mongoose (400 Euro)

2. VKB rudder pedals or MFG crosswind pedals (400 Euro)

3. Throttle system - Not essential but good to have (400 Euro) new ones coming "soon" from VIRPIL and VKB (300-400 Euro)

4. Track IR or Delanclip or VR goggle (150 Euro)

I made the ultimate mistake of buying high end plastic crap that cost hundreds of dollars that only lasted a few year (just over 2).

Saitek pedals....crap

Thrustmaster pedals ....crap

Warthog throttle and joystick..... a lot of users are binning theirs and going for the russian controllers (VKB and Virpil) detailed above.

Saitek X55 - crap.... dont even go there. For the price spend a bit more and get VKB or Virpil.

just get this,

Slikovni rezultat za gamepad logitech f31020-30$ and lasts for 10 years and you can use it on other games and you can play from your sofa, works Il-2 46, WT, DCS, BoX and easy to transport, and you can be competitive even online, sticks rudders all brake to fast if they are not high end. And new generation is most probably playing on similar playstation or xbox controlers so knowing they work so easy in this game is big advantage to atracting them and making them try this when they dont need to buy sticks and pedals and trotels and so on ... just use same controler you play maden or nba ?

@=EXPEND=DendroAspis This, exactly this i would have needed a while ago. Kinda byting my ass for buying a X-56 now. it's not bad but if i had known what you can get for just a bit more. Thing is you kinda have to dig deem and know hey there is that one guy somewhere in Russia making Good Pedals, hey there is that one guy making custom Throtles and so forth.

I spent a few hundred dollars for my X55 system.... it was great till a month down the line and my buttons stopped working.... the hotas also stopped giving tactile feedback etc.  Absolute crap for what you pay for. Even the warthog I believe starts creaking and getting smoothness issues after a year or two.

I wanted to buy saitek or thrustmaster pedals and a friend said to me, spend 100USD more and get the VKB pedals..... never regretted the decision to wait longer.

The russian stuff is metal inside and pretty much bullet proof.
