VBF-12_Stele Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 I'm trying to set up a high altitude bomb run for He-111s or Ju-88s (or any medium bomber for that matter), while using the "command: attack area" MCU. I'm trying to have them just drop their bombs over a general area. They are not targeting anything specific. I'd like them to keep their high altitude to just drop the bombs without having to dive down and attack specific targets and move on to the next waypoint. I tried this with "attack ground" checked, but according to the manual that has a different function than what I'm trying to do. Also, does the waypoint distance matter? FYI, I have the waypoint over the general area to drop bombs and I have it "targeted" to the command: attack area. 2
HBB*Hunger Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 I did that by using the command attack area mcu. A flight of 6 HE111s opened their bomb bay as they passed the last wp before the command attack area mcu. Then they dropped their payload over the target area. OnBingoBombs ---> Timer 15 Secs ---> Force Complete MCU ---> Timer 2 Secs -----> Waypoint RTB Thats how I did it. I just had problems regarding their formation, the flight leader always was much faster then the rest for me. Hope it helps Hunger 1 1
VBF-12_Stele Posted September 15, 2018 Author Posted September 15, 2018 Thank you for the explanation, but I could not get this to work. Can you please share the mission file?
TP_Jacko Posted September 16, 2018 Posted September 16, 2018 I have never managed to get AI to level bomb as a human pilot where you line up on the target and drop in one pass. They seem to over fly over the target do a big loop then return to drop bombs. To be honest I am not sure how OnBingoBombs would make a difference to dropping the bombs as its the message generated after bombs are dropped (that is my understanding of that command). There must be something else like WP priority or AI skill level. AFG_Hunger please post the mission I would be very happy to find the answer 1
JimTM Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 (edited) Here's an He111 "carpet bomb" attack on an area that includes a factory. You are in an FW190, following the formation. JimTMTestAttackArea.zip Note: Formation is "Dense" (you can play with this if you like). Formation, pre-target waypoints, and attack area are all at 2,000m. Path to the target is fairly straight. Attack Ground is selected. OnBingoBombs event from He111 leader or OnKilled event from the factory trigger a 1x counter that in turn triggers "Stop Attack" and then RTB via waypoint WP3. I recommend that you avoid large changes in altitude or direction close to the target, otherwise the AI wingmen just lose it and fall out of formation fast. If the AI keep a fairly good formation, you should see three sticks of bombs fall on the factory area. Place some other objects in the attack area and try your luck. HBB*Hunger Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Thanks Jim, just saw the latest posts here too late.
=SqSq=switch201 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I have no mission making experience, but have played a Ju88 career in career mode and noticed how the AI bassically does what your asking for. I am wondering if you were to make a ju88 career and then crack open a career mission file if it would have an useful info.
WWSitttingDuck Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 The magic number for the distance between the last waypoint and the command attack area that waypoint is going to trigger for the bomber is around 1900m. Anything less than that (give or take), and the bomber is going to veer off right as it gets to the attack area, and position itself for another run. If you make that distance more then 2300m, I believe you will find the bombers will just continue in a straight line and do their drop. Attached SP mission, single bomber has 1850m to fly before command attack. Pair of bombers have 2300m to fly before command attack.
