My Girlfriend's H100i v2 is noticeably quieter than my own Noctua air cooler especially at high fan speeds. She also gets better temperatures across the board despite her CPU being slightly OC, and mine isn't. Edited September 24, 2018 by F/JG300_Gruber 1
Freycinet Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 Article on the RTX cards for VR gaming: https://uploadvr.com/rtx-2080-performance-benchmark/ Seems that they'll be worth it since I intend to buy a next gen VR headset...

The only "next gen" VR device on the table is Pimax 5K+. I don´t consider Pimax8K since it is fiasco, the panels are not 4K but 3840x1080. The Pimax 5K+ could be available at the mass market not earlier than Q2-2019. For that device a 1080Ti is enough. So, don´t base your GPU buy on VR devices which still does not exist. In just half a year many thing can change. The GPU is something you can always easily upgrade and sell the old. 1

So they didn't test a single actual game with the new cards? They just ran some crappy benchmarks from steam? The 2080 and 1080ti should be nearly dead even.

I would be surprised if a 1080 Ti is enough for that Pimax 5K+ in combat flight sims. Certainly it will run it but maybe not at the performance one would hope. 1

I am not interested in buying a graphics card now and then having to buy a new one within the next year, and trying to sell the old card. My present desktop computer has conked out totally, so I will be buying soon.

F/JG300_Gruber Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 I wouldn't go cheap with RAM, get straight up to a 2x16Gb kit. You have 140€ for RAM and 250€ for the tower. It should be the other way round. Other than that, it looks like a sweet rig ! 1

However, 2666 MHz with CL16 18-18-35 timings is quite slow. It doesn't make a large difference, but if you're looking for the best frame rates in Il-2 and other CPU-bound games, it is desirable to have something like 3200 MHz with CL15 or lower. Low-budget RAM in a 4000 EUR rig makes little sense. If you must keep the costs down, cut the case, storage, or accessories to get better memory. As usual, the proof is buried somewhere here.
