Why are the dials so unstable?  It's not like this in Battle of Stalingrad.

Which dials are you referring to?

There were a number of types of instruments in use in WWII... some were electrical, some were hydraulically controlled, some mechanical.  They behaved differently.

The game tries to replicate these variations.

The airspeed indicator behaves erratically, which makes it difficult to judge the correct speed.  The RPM  seems a bit iffy as well.  These instruments are stable in Battle of Stalingrad, so which sim is behaving  correctly?

Never experienced a problem with either gauge in any of the aircraft.

Perhaps a few more details about the perceived problem, aircraft type and even a short video clip may help.

If it helps, I am referring to the Blitz version, so maybe it's different to the original CoD.

No issue in Blitz either.

If you have engine damaged, RPM will start jumping.

OK, but is the speed indicator supposed to jump about?

Yes when it is windy, airspeed indicator jumps up and down, rpms jumping a bit its more realistic too.

So at the end this are more realistic than BOS.

But I do think the feeling of wind and flight is better simulated in BOS.

Look at the airspeed indicator top left corner.

@Jabo;  Forget about Cessnas or 'engine damage':scratch_one-s_head:

Buzzsaw is right.  The game does attempt to give a fair representation of how these relatively primitive instruments behaved.   British aircraft such as the Spitfire and Hurricane were equipped with Smiths chronometric instruments.  The hands on these things did not sweep around the dials.  They increased in small, individual increments.

For their time they were both reliable and very accurate.  However,  they were subject to intense vibration being mounted on an instrument panel that was bolted to a bulkhead upon which the engine members and therefore a big throbbing petrol engine were also secured.  The effect this had on these instruments is modelled very well in game.

This vibration also had an effect on the pilot.  However, unless you've got a butt-kicker set up you won't feel the benefit of this.:salute:
