SCG_Rudis Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Hello all, I am having some difficulty really locking down my graphics settings on this game. I am relatively new to PC gaming so my base knowledge of hardware is limited. I am using a 4k monitor with a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 1070ti. I can maintain some relatively high fps ~100, but I still get a fair bit of screen tearing and stuttering. Is that the low refresh rate? Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Cheers,
Atomic_Spaniel Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 In the game's graphics settings you can enable vsync which should take care of the tearing. If you can hold 60 FPS then the game should feel quite smooth. There's no point in having higher FPS anyway because your monitor can't display the extra frames. I've only just bought the game myself and also have a 1070 Ti card, so I'll be interested to hear how you get on.
JG1_Labroisse Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 You can also try setting fast sync on in the nvidia control panel (its one of the vsync options) and then limiting the framerate to 60 fps in-game.

What you see with fast sync in terms of any fps counter is what the game engine is producing not the displayed frames on screen produced by your GPU. This is why you will see fps readings in excess of your refresh rate - its not because some voodoo is making more frames appear per second on screen. Vsync tells then engine "I only want 60 and at regular intervals". Fast Sync says "gimme all you got and ill worry about the rest" - then it uses 2 flip flopping buffers to select the most up to date full frame from what it has managed to process to populate its display buffer in line with the sync'd refresh rate. Primary purpose is to reduce lag. Is supposed to work best at rates that are double the refresh rate but work well for some below this - For other, dropping frames much under can introduce unevenly paced frames which can look like a stutter. Not sure if limiting frames in game interferes with it or not but, since its likely a command to game engine, if it has any effect it wont be beneficial.

Tearing is easy to eliminate with VSync. You can still perceive stutters during instantaneous frametime spikes despite seeing a high average frame rate. Higher refresh rates can help with stuttering. However, they can never eliminate it entirely. Instead, you’d need yo use an adaptive sync technology like FreeSync or G-Sync. Unfortunately, this probably requires a new monitor and/or new graphics card.
