Hey guys I'm currently looking to upgrade my rig. I currently am using a i7 4790k. Oced to 4.7 ghz. 16gb of 1866 mhz ram

And a gtx 1080 liquid cooled.

I want to know the performance difference in vr between any intel and amd builds. I've heard good things about ryzen so i just want some feedback. Thanks guys! ?

Don't do it, they have lower IPC and lower clocks, which is horrible for VR and especially Il2. They are absolutely fantastic chips in most cases just not in this one. If you weren't doing VR I'd say give it a shot. AMD's stock price has surged back to 30 a share on the back of Zen after an all time low of under 2 dollars.

If you already have a 4790K at 4.7GHz you already have a good CPU, of course you can upgrade it, but you will not see a huge improvement.

You major improvement will be from RAM upgrade.

We have been measuring the performance along all past year in this thread:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29322-measuring-rig-performance-common-baseline-for-il-2-v3/

You will see in the table results that AMD processor are not specially good for IL-2 in VR. The important thing is the single-thread or single-core performance.

If you want to upgrade now I would go for the i7-8086K which is reaching 5.0 GHz just with the turbo. Or with less budget go to i5-8600K.

If you can wait a month, then to the i5-9600K or i7-9700K:  https://wccftech.com/intel-core-i9-9900k-core-i7-9700k-core-i5-9600k-cpu-performance-leak/

The GPU selection will depend on your VR device. If you have a Rift with the 1080 is quite OK.

Heck yeah, I'd go with the 8700k or wait for one of these new 9 series, you're gunna need a new motherboard anyways. You guys use discord or teamspeak? Been dying to find some people to fly with. Also awesome is that you are in the EST timezone.

Agreed.

I am doing a new build this year, just waiting on the i7 9700k and possibly a z390 motherboard to pair it with.

Already have an EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra on pre-order.

I want all the horsepower I can get for VR, with hopefully a base system that will last me as long as this one has.

Edit: If I were updating this week (could not wait) I would get the i7 8086k.
