Hi,

I play IL-2 in VR only and I am experiencing freezes. When the freezes happen the VR display goes to the steamvr load screen and on the monitor just freezes the graphic. I can still hear the sound but I need to use Task Manager to shut down the game. Here is the unusual part. I play Quick Missions mostly and I have never experienced a freeze ever, no matter what plane or conditions I use. I only experience these in Career, Single Missions, and now in Tank Crew. It happens about 70% of the time when I use anything other than Quick Missions. (so, not always, but a majority of the time).

In the event viewer I see one of the 2 following messages - Error Application Hang - the program vrmonitor.exe stopped interacting with Windows... or the program il-2 stopped interacting with Windows. II don’t think these tell me much however. I never get any of this in any of my other sims. Any advice, suggestions etc. greatly appreciated.

I use BOS(BOM only with Oculus Rift. What a joy - but unfortunate I have the same experience with freezing - still sound and in the end plane will crash.

Hardware: GPU - 1080 TI, 16GB RAM, NO overclocking

Software::Windows 10 and all the latest drivers and software for everything.

I have tried to go to Jason's suggestions for a minimal graphical settings - still the same problem.

Hope that someone can find the reason for this - I believe it has been identified as a Display Driver Crash

Had this issue, no longer get it after reinstalling Windows.

Tried a lot of things before that, but couldn't find a solution. Hope you guys find a fix that isn't the nuclear option.

I have the same.  I have a series 7 cpu, a Nvidia GTX 1080 16GB, no overclocking, but mine is an Asus Preditor gaming LAPTOP.  I used a Rift and had the VR black out with the monitor freezing but the aircraft flying merrily on until it crashes or is shot down (I can hear it).  I have to go to task manager to shut down IL2.  I switched to Vive Pro for better definition and to hopefully end the blackout but no, it continued to happen.

Most often it's when AI aircraft are nearby or sometimes in multiplayer when player-flown craft are close my VR goes black and the screen image freezes.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.

I've ordered a new computer.  I'm tired of taking off, assembling with my squadron mates, flying to the objective, get jumped by enemy fighters, I roll in on one and *poof* my VR screen is black and my buddies lose my assistance at the worst possible moment.

Rolling back your 1080 driver to a pre july 2018 one will fix this, or at least it did for me.   I run the oldest one available from nvidias website, think its 388.73 or something like that. Also lowering setting as far as presets and ss helps as well.

Roll back your 1060 driver. As far as I know all the 10 series drivers are the same.

Experienced the issue a few times - rolled back the driver and didn't see it again.

Saw another driver update - upgraded hoping the issue had gone away, but nope. Each time this happens it costs me a pilot life, because the plane continues to fly but the graphics are completely locked. I can still hear my plane/pilots demise through audio when it happens.

I tried rolling back my driver to one recommended and it gave me a huge host of problems in addition to NOT solving the VR blackout problem in the least.  I had to reinstall the new driver and ever since I've had problems with control bindings changing about on their own between flights.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I highly doubt the video card driver impacted your control bindings.

Regardless, that is exactly what happened.
