Muff_Huggar Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 I am thoroughly confused. This happened tonight. I picked a Quick Mission tank and flew around shooting at three tanks. Okay, fine. I want to try bombs. So I exit the game and look up online how to run a bombing mission. Then I relaunch the game and slect the same tank Quick Mission and didn't pay too much attention, it loaded, I unpaused it and...I'm in a tank. I exit the mission confused and back out of the game back to the intro screen where it normally shows one the planes in the hangar, and there's a tank there. I got back into quick mission and every time I pick a tank Quick Mission, it switches me from flying to "tanking." I can pick my tank and choose it settings. I went back to the Flying Circus announcement and there's nothing there about tanks. See attached pix. Is this right?
HagarTheHorrible Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 You're not the only one confused Read what you have written and start again. If you select a "Tank" mission, as opposed to an "Aircraft" mission you will end up, not unsurprisingly, in a Tank. It's a little side game, being expanded and added to in "Tank Crew". If you want to attack tanks, in an aircraft, then select an aircraft, preferably one that's designed for the job, ensure that Tanks are included in the mission objects (small tick box on the mission set up page), select fly and whack Tanks to your heart's content. 1
Muff_Huggar Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 I'm sorry. You're reply doesn't make sense to me. So you're saying Flying Circus includes at least a piece of Tank Crew? But Tank Crew is being sold separately. There's nothing in the Flying Circus announcement that talks about driving tanks. Tanks aren't listed as one of the current or future additions. When I choose a quick mission, I'm expecting that it's me flying one of the provided planes against a variety of targets...trains, trucks, tanks, planes, etc. By your explanation, if I were to choose a train quick mission target, I would be driving the train.
OrLoK Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) tanks are part of the BoX series. I don't know if the original one's are drivable in a pure FC install. I'm assuming so. I fly ww1 aircraft in mp alongside ww2 one's all the time. edit: it's fine and normal. don't click on a tank mission if you wish to avoid em Edited September 8, 2018 by OrLoK

IL-2 BoX has a simple tank function and mission set EVEN if you do NOT own Tank Crew. So, since FC is built now into the IL-2 BoX core you by default also get that simple tank/mission set that has existed for a long time as well. You are not actually playing Tank Crew when you are using the 'default' tanks in IL-2. Tank Crew will provide it's own more fleshed out content. Does that make sense?
Muff_Huggar Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 Yes, understood. It took me by a huge surprise.
=AGW=Master Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 There are two free tanks that come with BoS. You dont have to own Tank crew but if you do you get two more tanks that are better modeled. and yes, this is all really confusing lol.
Muff_Huggar Posted September 11, 2018 Author Posted September 11, 2018 Last night, I thought I'd try these tanks. Unfortunately, I don't see any way to do anything with them. No keys seem to work at all and there don't appear to be any key bindings that would apply to tank control. I guess this is one of the joys of early access.
Muff_Huggar Posted September 11, 2018 Author Posted September 11, 2018 Would you expect to find those in the Keyboard Mapping section of Settings? I could not find them there. But I'll give them a try tonight to see if this is an undocumented feature for Flying Circus.
