ALA13_Yren Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) Well I'm doing a convoy attack mission. I've put five ships in spread formation and used formation->off road user -> loose. Waypoints are 500m radius and near to ships. When ships are attacked (and leader damaged and stopped but not sunk), most of them (all but one) start going backward at full speed and then in a while (not fixed time) start again to go forward. It's very odd... some body knows why??? Edited September 5, 2018 by PA_Yren
Sketch Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Questions: What are your waypoints priority set at? It's possible (and as always, I may be wrong) that you have a low priority and therefore the ships are taking defensive measures over continuing to their destination when they're attacked. Try setting the priority to medium and see if there's a difference How close together are your ships? I know you said 'spread formation', but how spread? They take time to maneuver, and if a ship (let's say "Ship A") is in the way of another ship ("Ship B"), then that ship ("Ship B") will attempt to find a way around the original ship ("Ship A"). That way around may only be to back up first. Try spacing out the ships a little more and see if that helps Do you have any logic tied to being attacked? An example would be like a proximity trigger that fires when planes get near the ships Check that logic if you have it If all else fails, post your mission here and someone will take a look at it.

It's been awhile since I messed around with using the formation MCU on the ships. IIRC most didn't work at all with the exception of line astern follow the leader or on road column. Yet here we have some interesting developments. Fun! Btw. Formation MCU certainly was made with land vehicles, aircraft in mind. Using off road user then transitioning to on road and visa-versa with several land vehicles in an echelon or staggered starting point creates some excellent visuals of hectic drivers attempting to get clear of attacking aircraft. As they will circle around to get in line behind the leader. More to your point PA. Any group of vehicles, ships included, activated and targeted to a leader will queue up and should the leader be incapacitated the remainder of the group will attempt to go around their stricken chief. Using terrain you can have them slide off embankments per se. The ships in your case are doing as Sketch noted. Attempting to go around their leader with chaotic results. You could use this to create wanted chaos or chalk it up to the ships code not up to handling the different formation MCUs. I use single ships which have their own waypoints and routines to make convoys but having some crazy full astern contributing to the chaos every so often sounds great. Good luck with your Mission Designing. Tip
ALA13_Yren Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 Thanks for your answer. Waypoints are medium and distance between boats I think is enough cause second in formation is able to maneouver leader and still sailing forward but those on sides and after (I think 200m away) keep going backward till 1km away and then return to course.

I haven't forgotten those boats that attempted to hide in the woods yet! Cheers.
ALA13_Yren Posted September 11, 2018 Author Posted September 11, 2018 Well, using WP for every boat and same speed and problem solved... no more battle Chaos...
