Sketch Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Based on some of the previous posts here in the general thread and elsewhere, it seems some of you pilots are seeking some coop goodness. The Eagle's Nest, using PWCG, is a community of pilots that strive for historical realism, with a good balance of fun mixed in. This, we feel, is perfect for that pilot who wants to jump into online play, but is intimated by the adversarial nature of "those other servers". You should have a good understanding of how to take off, land, and shoot straight; we'll handle the rest. Much like real life, our campaign's missions do not have kill messages, nor does it have magical GPS, and certainly, there are not an unlimited supply of planes. You'll have to confirm your kills at the end of each mission, and your co-pilot(s) will have to see that confirmed kill in order for it to count. Another note, the campaign is set to dead is dead. So if you die or get captured, you'll have to start your pilot's career over. Additionally, if you get injured, your pilot will need time heal and will miss out on a few battles while that happens. Wednesday (that's tomorrow!), at 8pm Eastern Standard Time, we're starting a fresh campaign with La5s and La5FNs. Unlike other cooperative campaigns, all your stats stay with you week after week, and we're running our campaign on a dedicated server. Therefore, there's no client side issues, and we can have even more ai events fire off during our missions. You can read more about our campaign in the esports and events thread here (which I don't think has had many views). If you're interested in joining, you'll need: to jump into our discord channel here: https://discord.gg/ujrMvGn.There, you'll see what has happened over the course of the campaign, as well as the current pilot roster and upcoming missions. a microphone and headset. We use push-to-talk in our discord. a good attitude. a decent understanding of how to take off, land, and shoot at baddies. See you guys then! 1 1
-332FG-Hank_DG Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 This sounds much like Aviators of War back in the War Thunder glory days before they sabotaged the sim community. Definitely interested, and will join tomorrow. I will see if any of my squad mates will as well. 1
PatrickAWlson Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 For now PWCG is limited to human players in a single squadron, so if it's LA5 then that will be the only squadron. Changes are coming that will expand on that, allowing human players to be in different squadrons and on different sides. That will take awhile though. For now, enjoy the experience of flying with other humans in a squadron.
NO_SQDeriku777 Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Does this squadron fly the regular LA-5 or the LA-5FN? Are mixed flights possible? I don't own the FN

However, we have had multiple days where we had an impromptu Axis mission or two for our ad hoc Axis campaign flying 109f4s. That campaign happens 'on the fly', and is designed for those that are more active with the community. If you're just casual and only want to fly coop once a week, then that's okay too. Additionally, after we finish this red campaign, we're going to fly out as Axis. Stay tuned and enjoy the flights! 6 minutes ago, NO_SQDeriku777 said: Does this squadron fly the regular LA-5 or the LA-5FN? Are mixed flights possible? I don't own the FN The squadron currently allows for both the La5 or La5FN as a choice for players, but I'm not certain if that ends after a certain period of time in the war. Maybe Pat could enlighten us.

I just want to express my gratitude for what Pat has done for the game and to Sketch for hosting these events. It is so refreshing to be able to fly without all the drama that is experienced on many MP servers. 1
SCG_motoadve Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 So how does this works exactly? I download PWCG then what is the next step, is there a place where I can find the instructions?

Just show up in discord at 8pm Eastern and fly. Literally, we're handling all the background stuff. You just fly the missions as a real pilot would, shoot stuff, and land safely home... if you can. ? Do it enough times and you'll earn rank, medals, and women have a good time doing it!

Maybe Pat could enlighten us. The short answer is that it's not entirely simple. If a player doesn't own a plane you can switch the plane type for a pilot in the mission briefing, with the caveat that a different kind of plane has to be available to the squadron. There is a backing algorithm that is both heavily randomized and not entirely simple. Planes have a production start and end date. Planes have an arch type (Lagg, for instance, which includes the LaaG 3, La5, and La5n). Squadrons fly an arch type - sometimes more than 1. PWCG produces planes. How many of each type depends on where in the production cycle that type is. Less are produced at the beginning and end of the production cycle, more in the middle. As planes are produced they are assigned to the depo. The depo is used to resupply the squadron. New types are preferred as long as they are available. The result of this determines which planes, tracked individually by serial number, are available in the squadron. Over time the La5N will replace the La5. Because of randomization there is no way of knowing exactly what will be on hand on any given day. My preferred answer is that people take it out of PWCG's hands and just buy the plane Edited September 5, 2018 by PatrickAWlson 1 1
Harlequin Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Hi I have been looking into starting my own small coop server for friends using PWCG too. After a mission and AAR on PWCG, how do you update the server with the new mission? The only way i can see is to shut down the server and then restart it with the new (recently generated) one. I there an easier way that i'm missing? thanks
oFlyingDutchman Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Hello, any idea why the invite to discord is expired?
