E69_geramos109 Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Hi there. I just realice that on the Bf109 G6 and G14 you have the option to equip a modification on the Radio. This modification ads a ring shaped antena on the top of the plane just behind the cockpit. While on the G6 this modification cost 0 speed lose, on the G14 you have a 5 km/h lose by the antena. Both modifications are different on weight but the antena is exactly the same so I dont undestand what is causing that difference. Even with that an antena causing 5km/h lose seems too big for me even i have no proves to confirm that just feelings. Modification on the G6: Peilrahmen pr16: Added weight 10k. Speed lose:0 kph Modification on the G14: Fug16-zy : Added weight 20k. Speed lose: 5kph
Asgar Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 the FuG16 mod on the G-14 adds the antenne on the bottom of the left wing. the ring on top is always on the 109

The ring is not there if the modification is not added. Same on the G6
LuftManu Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) Also the IFF antenna on the downside part of the left wing also adds weight and drag. Not sure how much. Antenna should only appear when carrying navaids. Edited September 4, 2018 by LF_ManuV
Kurfurst Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 This might help: http://kurfurst.org/Performance_tests/109G_Leistungzusammenstellung/Leistungzusammenstellung109G.html#dragitems_table Understood for standard late production G-2 (non retractable tailwheel). Fu G 16 Z: 0 kg, -1 kph (VHF radio - as G-2 had HF sets, G-4 and later had this built in) FuG 25 : +10 kg, -2 kph (IFF) No data for Y guidance radio set (16ZY) unfortunately. I am not sure if Peilrahmen and the Y was the same though - AFAIK the former was a DF system for homing on airfield beacons, the Y system was basically a modification of the well known Y-Geraet used by early war bombers for pathfinding (a blind bombing radio guidence system used for marking targets by special bomber units in the night) and was used to guide the aircraft of the formation leaders to the place of combat (i.e. the intercept point against bombers) in Reich defense units. It was used by the flight leaders only and was not used on the Eastern Front (Y system was removed), as there was neither need nor infrastructure. 1
-=PHX=-SuperEtendard Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) So the G-14 should have both radio systems separated (radio beacon loop and IFF/transmiter-receiver) in the modification section I suppose. Not only for the performance but also to model how the planes were used. Once Marshall mode is implemented I could see the IFF antenna having a good role making it better for the ground controller to coordinate the flights, having the position of these "guide" planes plotted on the map directly instead of relying on pilot reports, while the radio beacon loop should be standard for all planes, or at least much more common.
