Gunnery Experiment and Clubbing Baby Seals

I was curious what would happen to a WW1 aircraft that was hit by a cannon round from a WW2 fighter - I was curious if the round would detonate, for example

Yes. Yes it will.  This was a single round - I think - that impacted (and exploded) on the left lower wing's root. I was hoping to see the fuselage fail, but it didn't. The plane flew around pretty much like this until the engine failed, then piled into the ground... fairly gently.  I think the pilot even survived, but I doubt he was in his happy place.  I was impressed that the shrapnel damage was so extensive.

I also saw signs that MG rounds would pass through a wing structure and damage the next wing they come to, if the visual representation is any valid indication.  I was impressed at how sturdy the Dr.1 was too. It wasn't hard to make it combat ineffective, but actually shooting it down often took more hits than I had expected.

Now to line up a 109 vs. a SPAD...

So, not surprisingly 30mm cannon rounds are insti-death. I think this was a single round hitting the under carriage.  The pilot still seems to have some fight in him, but the plane has let him down. I tried to get non-central hits on the baby seals, but any contact with a 30mm rounds killed the plane.

The 13mm HE rounds though; those are survivable... Kinda.  I was able to get multiple hits on some of the SPADs before they were no longer capable of controlled flight, but often it wouldn't take much to over-stress the shattered remnants of the airframe, so just surviving the initial hits was only the beginning of the end.

Yes but what about when baby seals club back- How do balloon guns work against the 109?

Can a Flying Circus pilot lob grenades at another plane?

No, but he can fire his side-arm at them.
