padlock view on target

I cant find a padlock view on target in the game.

Does it exist?

Yes, but it is disabled by default, even on normal difficulty. You need to check the box in difficulty settings.

I have the padlock box checked, and a key assigned.....in BOM but padlock does not work.  I've tried many keys...none work.  Padlock does work in Normal realism but not in Custom or Expert realism.  I've reinstalled the game...no change.  Padlock works fine in Cliffs of Dover sim which is under Steam.....and in IL2 1946 also under Steam.  So the problem seems to be in the Great Battles sims.

Any Help?

Never used padlock option, but if you say that it actually works fine with normal difficulty settings, then check if there are some "green" checkboxes unchecked

in your custom or expert difficulty settings. You will notice that some checkboxes have different colours. Green are actually the "normal" settings, if I'm correct.

Have a look.

Are you playing in single player or multiplayer? If you are playing multiplayer then the padlock view is a server-side setting which will over-ride your settings.

Single Player only......I reinstalled Great Battles after upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10.   I now have BOS< BOM<BOB and Flying Circus......the Custom realism does not work...especially the padlock., but it seems that custom realism is just to working at all.  I still get padlock only on Normal Realism setting.  It''s been some time now and I'm frustrated because there doesn't seem to be a answer out there.    The key commands in Custom Realism also do not work....none of the key strokes for views work except in Normal Realism......I feel abandoned by IL2 staff.......

So none of the checkboxes affect the game under Custom Realism?

Out of interest I tried the padlock. Just ticked the padlock option on custom difficulty and assigned keys for targeting friendly and hostile aircraft. Worked flawlessly in 2vs2 quick mission.

Could you post screenshots of your various settings? Maybe there is something you are missing. It could be a bugged install I suppose.

I've reinstalled Great Battles twice now.....both times the same problem with Custom Realism.  I've gone through settings a number of times....at start or game and also when pausing the game just to recheck the settings.  I've tried with both the Padlock box checked and unchecked.  If you have a padlock working in Great Battles Custom Realism setting then could you let me know what boxes you have check in realism settings and I will try that combination to see what works.  I'll try to get a screenshot of settings but the thing is before I reinstalled Great Battles I was flying in Win 7 in BOS and BOM.... and everything worked fine....the problem started with the new reinstall for Win 10.  As I mentioned I've uninstalled and reinstalled Great Battles twice now with not change in the problem.

Padlock, Navigation markers, Alternate Plane Vis, Simplified Physics, Unlimited ammo, No Engine stall, Warm Up engine, Rudder assist, Autopilot, Throttle auto limit, Engine auto control, Radiator assist.    I don't understand the different color boxes for each item......Green, Red....and no color.  Padlock box has green border.  Do color of boxes have anything to do with which Realism levels?   These are settings I used before I reinstalled GB for Win 10 and they worked fine in Win 7 under the old install.  Also COD settings work fine...no problem with padlock in that game or in Il2 Sturmovik 1946.

Here are the settings I used to test padlock. I only have binded keys 8 and 9 since I don't use padlock feature. I just tried it out for you. Last pic is padlock enabled and my wingman in centered in the view. I'm running windows 10 too. I think the colors in difficulty refer to Normal / Expert difficulty settings. In Normal you have green and red boxes checked and in Expert you have only red boxes checked.

 

Edit: Padlock works both with head tracking (Opentrack / Edtracker) and without head tracking.

Huh? Put it in a .zip file and attach it to a post if you think it won't show up. We will down load it and view it then.

Ok, I think I figured it out.

 

I tried settings what buz13buz13 is using and the padlock stopped working. With "Allow Spectators" unticked the padlock doesn't function.

So tick also "Allow Spectators" (enables external views) and you should be good to go.

Remontti:  The Allow Spectators box being clicked did the trick.  Why those two are linked together is unexpected.  If Allow Spectators is required for padlock then perhaps clicking one box should check both.  That also affects other keys also as when I did not have Allow Spectators checked the key assignments also did not function.....except in Normal Realism where they did work......strange!

I suspected it would be that, because RoF also has that dependency.  The question is why?  I just cannot see a connection.

Having padlock problems again........Have padlock and allow spectators boxes checked in custom settings.  Padlock works intermittently.....sometime it works sometimes not.

I'm talking about single player only.  Sometimes the padlock will work at the start of a mission but then stops working later.  I'm using windows 10.  Have padlock key on my joystick.  Have tried other keys with not luck.  Now padlock works on CofD Blitz even though  it padlocks both friendly and enemy aircraft without a way to set padlock enemy aircraft only....seems strange.  The padlock feature on IL2 1946 works great.    The problem also is in Normal setting....have not tried Expert setting.  I've been using target assistance so I can tell enemy aircraft from friendly but that work only when the enemy aircraft is fairly close.....at any distance it's impossible to distinguish enemy from friendly aircraft so not have a padlock is frustrating.   NEW...THE PADLOCK FEATURE WORKS STRANGLEY....THE KEY I HAVE CHECKED TO PADLOCK ENEMY AIRCRAFT WHILE WORKING INTERMITTENTLY SEEMS TO ACTUALLY PADLOCK ENEMY AIRCRAFT WHEN I FLY IN EXTERNAL VIEW.  WHEN i JUMP BACK IN THE COCKPIT THE PADLOCK STOPS WORKING.
