Poochnboo Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 As far as I can see there haven't been any campaigns done for the Western Air Forces. Not on the Western Front, anyway. Even though we have Spitfires, P-40, P-39 and the A20. I'm guessing most people don't like the idea of using the present maps as stand-ins for other locations. But why not? When we get our Thunderbolts, I'm hoping someone will decide to make some missions and campaigns for it. And not with Russian markings. I'm thinking along the lines of a career using the P-40 and P-47. Some USAAF units that had been flying the Warhawks in North Africa would later convert to Jugs as part of the 12th Air Force. As a matter of fact, the P39/P-47 combo could be used also. The 350th Fighter Group flew both. This long suffering outfit was forced to soldier on with thier Aircobras until December of '44. So, with the Stalingrad map being Tunisia, the career starts there. Moscow and Kuban maps would become Sicily and Italy as your unit converts to Thunderbolts and continues it's groundpounding missions up the Italian Boot. I'm just not getting into the Russian Front. Russian airplanes, either. Must be others out there like me who would like to see this. Hope you mission and campaign builders will think about it.

That could be next year some time. It's just too much work to bother building an entire campaign on another map. That said, I might release a free "teaser" mission or two on the Stalingrad map since I have to build logic groups on another map right now anyway until I have the Belgium/Germany map in my hands. That will depend on if I can get that released to you guys in an encrypted form or not. Shouldn't be a problem, but I'll talk with Jason about it later when it's time-appropriate, meaning we have the Jug, and I have something ready to go in that regard.

Stalingrad would be a poor Tunisia - it’s a completely different kind of terrain, and there’s no body of water remotely close in size to the Mediterranean on the map. Moscow as Sicily wouldn’t work either. The same problem would be magnified a hundredfold given that all of Sicily is smaller than the area of the Moscow map, and it’s surrounded by water. Kuban could possibly work as Italy between Genoa and Piombino, though.
