Happy to see work on the turbo proceeds apace. I'm really looking forward to how controlling it will be modelled.

Great news for a DD#200.

I sure hope you guys can model the turbo to be controled by player independantly from other engine systems.

Also, I think picking the Sherman for the next tank in TC is a great choice to lure new people.

Can anyone shed some light on if the B25 Mitchell is planned to be made flyable?

Will it be a Christmas Thunderbolt, or a turkey? ?

Sopwith Camel is my favorite plane, all genres.

And thanks for the visual effect improvements - they're always making things better, never calling them "good enough."  One of the best things about the title...

"In the next update, we plan to improve numerous aircraft graphical effects and make minor improvements to the netcode."

What about correcting the thermal properties and too low engine limitation at military power on the Fw 190 A-8 or fixing the incorrectly implemented supercharger of the Bf 109 G-14?

Will we get Schürzen as an option to the Pz. IV? If yes, will it be a mesh or solid steel plates?

Would be steel plate, since the mesh was a 1945 thing I believe. Also, how common was schürzen on the Ausf G? Only the very late ones I believe, right? Came to be standard on the Ausf H.

Guys,

About the graphical effects mentioned. These are WIP and not tested in beta yet, but this is the current list. Don't hold us to this cause I don't now what will make the final cut.

1. Smoky tracks from tracers, like MG and AC, have been changed. Now the tracks are synchronized with the speed of the tracers, + they become more realistic in character with a new texture
2. The texture of the flashes is slightly changed for hits and explosions.
3. Improved the effect of the flame
4. The fuel leak effect was changed, it became less noticeable, more realistic
5. Changed the effect of smoke from a damaged engine
6. Changed the effect from the wing tips, tried to achieve a wavy, more believable character.
7. Added the effect of hitting bullets on a wooden plane
8. Improved visualization of light tracers of aircraft

Jason

Sounds great

Once again a fine update. Thank You.

And now I'm really curious about the Sherman. Never had a soft spot for this. But I get the feeling that this could change, once I get my hands on it.

Amazing news! Now we have three DDs in one. I am very excited about all of them and thanks for keeping refining the graphics effects. :)

Thanks! The new tanks are looking great. Can't wait for the P47. I was expecting a realistic approach on the turbosupercharger and looks like it will happen! Thank you!

Also, nice to hear about the FX changes, always evolving!

It's a blast!

Modeling turbo superchargers in such detailed way + air compressibility is fantastic!

So good to hear such news.

This new mechanics are even more important than new airplanes themselves because new mechanics affects the whole game and move it to a higher level.

Great DD.

Sweet news although compressibility starts at Mach 0.3 which is 230 mph . O no I didn't xx ?

Jason

This reminded me of a story I heard not long ago about the making of the movie The Bridges at Toko Ri.  They tried to film the scene where William Holden's aircraft was leaking fuel, using real fuel.   However they found that the real fuel leaking wasn't as noticeable or as cinematic as they wanted it to be.  They eventually used chocolate milk!

At the same time another engineer, Roman Kovalenko, is modeling a new device type in our project - turbosupercharger. The main difference between a turbosupercharger and other superchargers we already modeled in other aircraft is the fact that it is powered not by the engine shaft, but by the turbine which is rotated by the engine exhaust. Therefore, the manifold pressure created by the turbosupercharger at different engine modes has a much more complex formula and requires a much more complex physical model. The first aircraft in our sim that will have this device is P-47D-28 Thunderbolt.

Guys, you are the best.

I don't remember other sim which would properly model turbochargers.

Posted

Well the P-47 turbo effectively works nearly like a second throttle, and it would be pretty disappointing to not have it done right.

Good job and it's great news that some stuff is going to be modeled in details.

Hmm... the detailed modeling of turbos, then a turbo-jet engine... hopefully the P-51 will get properly modeled radiator, as well. It's not that different than a jet engine: compression, heating, air acceleration in the nozzle - the same principles.

In the future all planes' radiators could be done that way - even if gains would be minuscule it would improve realism, still.

(Meredith's paper an the subject is easily attainable)

Wow! A good mix of information.

Air compressibility, turbosupercharger for the P-47D-28 Thunderbolt and improvements to numerous aircraft graphical effects. < Looking very forward to seeing these :)

The model of the M4A2 sure looks nice.

Is there any chance community members can receive the .PSD, and view within the viewer, (for the tanks as well ), in the future please?

The detail on the buildings for the Prokhorovka map look really good. Will these be the destructible dwellings?

Thanks a bunch, for all the continued hard work, really appreciated. :salute:

Great stuff!

Any chance the the logic for the ground smoke (medium and large city fires) can be tweaked to run continuously until deactivated? It would be nice to see the smoke uninterrupted. There are some ME workarounds but even then you can see the cycles that interrupt the smoke.

Im talking of logic tweak, not visuals.

I wonder what this means? : In the next update, we plan to improve numerous aircraft graphical effects

3d models corections or smoke, fire, hits ?

Thanks for the news!

When I say soon I mean within 1-3 months. Hopefully it's only another month but I doubt it.

I've been waiting to fly an accurate P-47 in a sim for years and the wait is killing me. I can't wait to fly and learn everything about it's in-game performance/handling.

If I can wait all these years for a DCS P-47 then I can wait a few months for an Il2 P-47, at least we will actually see it.

Jason, quick question, was curious since you guys can do oil slicks and rain effects on the windshields, would it be possible to get like wear effects on the airplanes? Maybe like blacken the area around the exhausts as you fly longer and longer or get really black the richer you run your mix settings? You could do like that transparent alpha layer it wouldn't really effect the skins themselves it'd just be on top of it. I really don't know exactly what I am talking about on how you'd implement that. Just would be a cool idea for new effects. Especially in career make it carry over on the planes somehow so they get more beat up throughout your campaign. Just a thought. I remember CLoD had that wear slider but that was user set and didn't really change throughout the flight or anything.

Would be super awesome to see that implemented some day. It's the little details that really make this game stand out and this would just add to it.

Another thing I'd like to see is the water effects used for oil as well, that way if you get an oil leak you can see the oil running across your cockpit and building up and blocking your view. Currently it's just a texture that builds up but I think it be cool to actually see the oil leak and have it be a bit more dynamic, and even potentially block your entire view.

Great to hear that we are being heard about the AI issues. Hopefully devs will find time to adress it soon.

Also nice to hear that the tracks and tracers will be tweaked. They are pretty good already but I felt that they've lacked the last 10%  realisticness somehow. Couldn't point my finger on it though- can't wait to see the final result!

Looking forward to the Panzer IV. Not too familiar with the Sherman, how will it fare against the Pz. IV?

The graphical effects mentioned before are the Devs talking about the RTX ON effects by any chance? Are they?  :scratch_one-s_head:

The safest guess would be no. A few titles will support RTX (and ray tracing - which is part of RTX but not all of it) at launch but even then they are on the bleeding edge as they will need a DirectX12 update with the new ray tracing features supported for nVidia's RTX system.

IL-2 is currently DirectX11 which was a substantial upgrade. I'm guessing it'll be a while before they go to 12 and have to sink costs into another engine upgrade.

I agree.

Also, in my opinion IL2 is not the type of game that would benefit much from it (visually).

RTX is very well suited for those scenarios where there are tunnels, light sources,  dark rooms with lots of object shadows etc.

Being at 5K altitude the visual difference will be negligible.
