E_Davjack Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) I recently got a MSFFB2 stick (holy crap why haven't I owned these since the early 2000s) and it completely changed my flight sim game. It's just more...flighty than a spring stick. I'm sure yall know. So I got back into flight sims hard, and had to buy Flying Circus early access and try it out. The game itself runs beautifully on my I7 6700k, 16gb 3200 RAM, 1080 card. Full settings and all. Except for my Opentrack homemade TrackIR system. For whatever reason, it just is not fluid in game. It stutters. I get 60 FPS constantly at high, and at the lowest possible graphics and view settings. It doesn't matter, the HeadTracking is still stuttering. One thing I have noticed is that it is at its smoothest right when I start the Free Flight in the Dr1, and also when I have landed. But once I start manipulating the controls and flying around, it stutters. Currently I am running OpenTrack v2.3.9, and it works amazingly well on Arma 3, Rise of Flight, and DCS with graphics on full-high. I would assume that on those games, my $40 system works as well as any professional. But in IL2: FC, it does not feel right. Is there something wrong with IL2 and Opentrack? I apologize if this is a known topic, but I spent the last 2 hours butting my head against this problem and trying to load every different option that might matter (VR HDWhatever etc), and I am just about Over It™. EDIT: Oh yeah, Opentrack is set Input: Pointracker 1.1 and Output: Freetrack V 2.0 enhanced. Like I said, works awesome on ROF and DCS. Edited August 24, 2018 by EmerlistDavjack
DD_Perfesser Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) Someone here posted before to make sure Opentrack is an exclusion in your anti-virus. Check that. Exclude the game as well. Worked for me. Edited August 24, 2018 by DD_Perfesser
E_Davjack Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 I made sure both were excepted, and the I also just closed anti-virus altogether. Both times I and restarted computer. Did not work. The odd part for me is that it is totally okay if on the default level autopilot after loading in a Quick Mission, OR after I have landed, but even with the engine still on. I thought this then had to do with horizon or loading distance...nope. I'll do more tests tomorrow. I want to enjoy FC when it comes out.
US103_Baer Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) There's a long thread in Tech Issues section about ffb apparently creating microstutters in BoX. I'll try find the link. Edit: Btw I have microstuttering in FC also using homemade freetrack setup when I turn my head, and that's with 100-120fps g-sync on. In normal flight all is smooth, just head turn affected. RoF is much smoother in comparison with same setup although only 60-80fps. Go figure. Edited August 24, 2018 by US103_Baer
E_Davjack Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 Okay well that does answer my question about it being a BoX problem. I am disappointed and may have to ask 1c-777 for a refund. Thank you.
Aplana_Moscuu Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 (edited) The whole IL-2 is very stutter prone. Their standard answer is always that your system is too old, but that's not it. I bet I would get the same issues in ROF. The Caucasus map was a huge improvement to all kinds of stutter, even though it gives a lower frame rate. Valis Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 I didn't want to start a separate thread but I too have the same rough head-tracking using Opentrack. Every other flight game is fine, it's just IL-2 (though ROF feels a bit dodgy too) I don't use FFB and I've tried everything to sort it out. Setting in-game camera smoothing helps but dulls the response so much it's like moving your head through treacle. I've noticed that panning the camera is not smooth in IL-2. When you rotate around an aircraft in external view you can see the landscape juddering badly to 'keep up'. The faster you pan the worse it gets. I wonder if this is connected to the choppiness we are experiencing? It's a pity.
No_85_Gramps Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 I don't have any issues w/opentrack, or panning in external views. Take a look at these camera settings and see if they may help. 1
Valis Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Thanks for the tips, Gramps, unfortunately no joy using your settings. This is how it looks on my end (feels a bit like not having V-Sync enabled) IL-2 is the only game to react badly to my head-tracking setup - all the rest run perfect.
BMA_West Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Just a wild hunch but could it have anything to do with a resolution difference between the tracking device and the in-game settings?
Stumble Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 First off, you could try FaceTrackNoIR with the Free track plugin. That's what I've been using with RoF and it works perfectly besides one thing. There's this strange bug where u can't look 90° up but only a maximum of a about 60-70° even though all the curves and stuff are set to an output of 90°. As it turns out someone at the RoF forums found out that you need to adjust some of the game files within RoF and that makes it work perfectly! However, I've tried this in Battle of Stalingrad (BoS) but it doesn't seem to work. It still can't look up fully even after modifying the files. Considering that FC runs of the same BoX engine I assume you might have a similar problem. https://riseofflight.com/forum/topic/47688-facetracknoir-90-degree-or-more-pitch-problem/#entry693186 I did try open track on BoS but it was absolutely horrible. I tried for a long time fidling around with all the settings but nothing made it nice and smooth compared to FaceTrackNoIR with the IR plugin. Could you perhaps send me your settings file for open track that you say works for RoF? If it's not too much to ask. It would be great to give it a go! Salute! Stumble.
