adler_1 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 hi, i am new here and still installing the game .In IL2 we have all the voids in each aircraft folder so my question is if we dont have voids where do we find them to create the templates ? further i am using PS C2 the free edtition since many years , i dont like GIMP not good enough is PS ok for this game and does the game accept HD 2048 skins ?
BlackHellHound1 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 You can find pretty much all the official and community made templates here: And some in the 4K section (they simply haven't been added to the offical links yet): https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/107-4k-skins-and-templates/ They should all work with PS C2. any skin you make you can put into "data\graphics\skins\(correct plane)" BlackHellHound1
Zargos Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 22 minutes ago, dog1 said: and does the game accept HD 2048 skins It even accept 4096 HD skins provided you select the option in the configuration menus. If you don't find a template in the official list or from the link BlackHellHound had submitted you can extract default skins from "gtp" files of the game with "unGTP" software. These skins are not voids as you've been used to with the old IL2 but you can start a template from them. Cheers.
adler_1 Posted August 21, 2018 Author Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) thank you for all the above info . where do you download the correct unGTP software ? once extracted i skin and save with PS , do i then convert back from PS to gtp file using the same gtp extract tool or does PS recognise and saves as GTP ? The game default skins are how many pixels ? 1024 2048 ? Edited August 21, 2018 by dog1
Raptorattacker Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 The game default skins for the fighters are 2040, larger planes will probably be 4096. Personally I save the skins as 4096 with Nvidia DDS converter although I aint sure if it's compatible with your Photoshop...Only one way to find out, eh?! https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop Good luck! Here's the unGTP Extractor link... http://www.mediafire.com/file/caxpalaudz1hd47/unGTP-IL2.zip
adler_1 Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 So i must save the fighter size planes as 2040 . i am used to 1024 and 2048HD over at IL2 . I make my own templates always for both resolutions . For upload i presume i must upload my work at M4T , is this where everyone with this game goes to or are there other sites catering for this series of games . . thank you for support .

You are free to choose what resolution you use regardless of the plane (Size of the plane has nothing to do with the available resolution). Most planes have a default size of 2048 (some already have officially released 4K skins) but there is nothing stopping you from using 4096 for any plane. It is completely optional. Of course, the 2K and 4K templates are available through the links I send earlier. Keep in mind that there is more to a skin than just the Texture map. Besides the texture map, there is also the Alpha (specular map), Normal Map (Fake 3D bump effect), and the damage map. If you make your own template and change some structural parts, then some elements in the different maps may no longer correspond. Where you upload and share your skins is completely up to you. You can use M4T but most skinners (including me) upload their skins straight to this forum with a direct download link (or upload to both). You might also have noticed the various "hangers, skin depots and musea" here on the forum. Those are sections where 1 skin artist uploads only his skins and has personal interaction with the community. Then there are the general sections which are pinned. These are for 1 plane and anyone can share his/her skins. BlackHellHound1
adler_1 Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) RAPTORATTACKER i dont know how to use the unGTP , i unzipped the exe and placed it in a folder together with the texture file from the airplane in game and dragged it in , can you explain how to proceed to activate it ? where are the 3 files you mentioned above ? in the plane folder there is only the texture file . is there any skining to be done on them too , do i use the same tools and where do they then go ? I've installed the Nvidia plug in , under which drop down does it appear and what name ? i downloaded a template from the above link the BF10F4 and it opened in PS ,had a good look , nice to see the spinner is facing up in sections , easier to work with . i see there is only the texture file , so i need to understand where the other 3 files are and what do i do with them and with which tools .
