Another 15s to id it as a plane heading left. It's a plane slightly up right of center heading right haha. It's white and has what looks like a red stripe or something down the side. Don't see any plane up and to the left. Somebody pointed it out already and circled it.

69th_Panp Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 70 percent from the left and 65 percent from the bottom going right

Quick napkin math then seems to imply that the human eye would be able to resolve the 9 meter long Bf 109 at up to 30km under absolute perfect conditions. I would assume that once you start throwing in atmospheric effects, lighting, and camouflage that distance drops rapidly. What that actually means, I don't know. Does that mean you can tell it's obviously a 109? Would it mean you could only determine that it's an airplane? Or does it simply mean you could tell something exists in that space? The mistake in your logic is, the 109 is no a ball with a 9m diameter, but an aircraft, 9m long. You can take a 20m long nail and won't See it at large distances, because it has a too small diameter.
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 S! Why the bickering about a game with gamey features vs RL? IL-2 can never compete with RL spotting etc. And never should. It should offer visibility and other features that take in account we are playing on a computer. Playability vs realism. At the moment IL-2 has way too short visibility for bombers etc. The LOD circle takes care of that. Fly at 5-6km and can´t see a hangar below you unless zooming in whilist in real life you can spot a building size of a hangar easily. Or not seeing a ship if you are 0.01m too far for it to draw on screen Current draw distance is maybe good for WW1 planes and speeds, but not WW2 and beyond. If you fly at tree top level there is no issue as you do not see the LOD circle, but any higher and it is painfully visible. AS for spotting a plane. Again make it playable as a game can not mimic RL seeing etc. Have to make a compromise there. Of course not the big as a house dots like in original IL-2, but they could fade in and out depending on range, not just be visible or not like now. Add the zoom to the mix and spotting is a chore at the moment. 1 1
