R-HL Panzerblitz rockets parasite drag - 175km/h difference - does it work as intended or it's a bug

I have noticed pretty huge speed decrease with Panzerblitz rockets. I'm not sure, maybe it works as intended.

Or it's a mistake in parasitic drag parameters somewhere in the code because Panzerblitz rockets decrease the speed of FW190F-8 by... a lot :)

With rocket's racks alone under the wings (rockets has been fired) FW190F-8 has speed of 550 km/h with Erhöhte Notleistung, before firing the rockets it's 375 km/h, 175km/h difference before and after release. It's hardly believable.

I.e. in case of 3x SC250 bombs on three racks the difference before and after release is 32km/h.

After releasing 10 from 12 rockets the speed is 500km/h.

When 2 last are released - it increases to 550km/h so even only two last rockets are taking 50km/h - far more than three 250kg bombs :)

(In case of two big Spitfire HE rockets the difference before and after release is 6-10km/h, not 50km/h for two rockets)

(In case of Pe-2 s.87 its only 11km/h for 10 rockets before and after release)

(In case of MiG-3 its only 2km/h for last two rockets before and after release)

Before posting a bug i wanted to know other opinions to be sure.

have a nice day

Hello, I also noted this strange behaviour. I don't know if this is correct but it seems strange nevertheless. As it is still an early access product I think it might be not finished. The same with the heat difference between A5 and A8.

Yes, that's why i only inform about that, maybe it's just a bug in code.

I hadn't really thought about it but I had noticed the F-8 to be quite sluggish with the rockets fitted. By quite sluggish I mean it was really struggling... I thought maybe that was normal but 175km/h decrease does seem particularly extreme.

Yes, in case of other planes two last rockets takes between 6-11km/h, in case of FW190F-8 it's 50km/h.

I think it's some small mistake in the code but who knows, maybe this rockest had somethng what works like an airbrake.

When someone from devs will see that they will know in a second it's possible or not.

Historically it should make a considerable difference in handling as the gun pods did . But if what you say is correct it must be a bug. Have you seen what speed reduction the game say it should have, if you click at the option on weapons setup it will show what weight it add and speed reduction.

It's not an option, an option is F8 variant so it's impossible to check this way. Comparing to other rockets looks like the parasite drag is multipied by ~ 10. Like one zero to much. :)

These are numbers for the Fw190G-8 (for reference comparison)

2 300ltr drop tanks + 1 SC500 bomb > speed loss 50.9mph (82kph)

2 SC250 + 1 SC250 > speed loss 46.6mph (75kph)

Yes, something definitely not right.

Max speed for launching missiles (Pb1) is 490kph.

I would go ahead and post it in the bug report section and PM a Dev so it gets noticed sooner rather than later.

i posted it in the testing section

And this numbers include racks, so to compare with them we have to state Panzerblitz are taking not 175km/h but about 200km/h.

Looks like it's too much.

Yeah this was my observation as well, but haven't bothered to make any tests yet. Thanks!

it may be a bug resulting from that it was mentioned in literature that on the fw 190 the maximum speed for firing the rockets was limited to 495 km/h. I seriously doubt the rockets would add so much drag.

I also made some tests comparing it against the top speed at 1.32 ata and 100% open shutters, looks like the rockets individually have lots of drag, but the more there are the less drag they cause, but it still adds up a lot since they are 12:

no rockets 1.32 ata 100% shutters: 514 km/h

speed    rockets   penalty
346 km/h     12      total 168 km/h
361 km/h      10      1st pair: 15 km/h
380 km/h      8      2nd pair: 19 km/h
401 km/h       6      3rd pair: 21 km/h
427 km/h      4      4th pair: 26 km/h
459 km/h      2      5th pair: 32 km/h
501 km/h       0      6th pair: 42 km/h

Racks 13 km/h penalty

Makes no sense. It´s a bug.
