Panzerlang Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Please may we have a joystick-button activated gun-cam function? Something that captures forward-facing cockpit-less footage by pressing a button on a controller (stick ideally). Obviously there are programs like Bandicam but they capture only what's on the screen and the few I've tried this morning can be activated only by keyboard commands. I did map my Warthog to a keyboard button but I don't like having the script running in the background (why the hell doesn't the Target-software program a chip inside the hardware or something?!). CloD sucks...it lets you record while playing but the cockpit cannot be turned off in a track. Puh. Tis my first feature request.
J4SCrisZeri Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I've been on this topic some time ago I would like a cockpit-less view But looking at RoF, I fear this is not scheduled or possible with this engine, am I wrong?
Panzerlang Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 I'm pretty sure others have said you don't need TARGET running, and that it does actually program the firmware on your stick. You could then, define a key like F8 to activate your capture software and the same key in game to fire your weapon. Anyway, even so, it'd be better if it was handled in-game. Well, soon as I close the script and/or close Target, my joystick button no longer emulates the keyboard button I have assigned to Bandicam.
dburne Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Well, soon as I close the script and/or close Target, my joystick button no longer emulates the keyboard button I have assigned to Bandicam. Yes anything you script in Target , requires the script to be running for it to be active. For me personally, that is how I want it - I prefer to create profiles for my individual flight sims in Target, rather than setting all the button assignments in the game. It gives me a lot more power and flexibility over how I program the buttons, versus assigning them within the game controller menu. I guess Bandicam has no way to assign a button versus a keypress? Like in Track IR software, once can choose to assign a button rather than a keypress to things like Pause, Re-Center.... There may be some other third party solutions to achieve what you want so you don't have to use Target, I have never used it but have heard of something like Joy to Key, or Joy2Key, that might do it... or you can just run the Target script and keep doing it the way you are.
Panzerlang Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 No, neither Bandicam or any of the other progs I've tried allow anything other than keyboard buttons to activate the cam. It's not a biggie, hitting the spacebar on the keyboard is easy enough, just a bit less convenient and immersive. As for the Target software, I'm not a fan of having superfluous software running in the background that uses CPU resources and may very well flake out and leave me with no controls. Also not a biggie though, I'm happy enough to assign everything via the games I use. Thanks for the info.
dburne Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I can understand not wanting Target running to save system resources, but you may find Joy2key to be forgiving enough in that respect. On my system, while a script is running, Target uses 48mb of ram, and .1% cpu.
Freycinet Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 You CAN have wondewoman view in CoD when you play back tracks.
Panzerlang Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 You CAN have wondewoman view in CoD when you play back tracks. But you're keeping the method to yourself because it's secret...?
Sokol1 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) But you're keeping the method to yourself because it's secret...? ??? This is know since il-2 (2001), just play the track, select no cockpit view (know as Wonder Woman View or WW view ), hit the record button, you are re-recording the track like a guncam view. Or fly ofline and in "arcade" servers, with "WW view" enable (with or without gunsight). Samples: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=il-2+cliffs+of+dover+guncam Since RoF/BoS dont have "WW view" - this is stated in one first DD - perhapes is difficult implement record with "guncam" view. AFAIK thing dont include in any sim to date, but should be nice. Sokol1 Edited January 27, 2014 by Sokol1 1
Panzerlang Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 The no-cockpit view is ctrl-F1. I hit that in the track and nada.
Sokol1 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Hit ESC, tick "Edit views" (1), this allow Ctrl+F1 work on tracks recorded offline (I just test here now). Tracks recorded online have external views locked - because in il-2'46 people cheater with this in onlines wars to find enemy bombers. Online tracks recorded on ATAG server is possible unlock "Edit views" with a utility made by then. (1) If you tick "Edit view" before start play track is need hit F1 or camera will show only a static view of nowhere. Sokol1 1
Panzerlang Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Thanks Sokol. I found the ATAG utility the other day but Bandicam is doing the job required (kill confirmation for DiD) so it's all good. But it would still be a very excellent thing to have a 'real' gun-cam feature in BoS.
Sokol1 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I am curious with this "trigger activated camera" - in game. How you stoped the record? Is need fire again? BTW - other friendly - low resource keymapper - is SVMapper *, allow "Mapped key on press" and "Mapped key on release", plus delay. Perhaps: trigger pressed, record key pressed (start) too. Trigger released, record key press (stop) again, maybee after X seconds delay... The problem is, if you need fire again before delay time, you are stopping the recording, instead start again. * AFAIK - Dont work in BoS at moment for combo keys (e.g. Alt/Ctrl/Shift+R), only for single keypress ®. Panzerlang Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 I activate Bandicam by pressing the space-bar, turn it off by the same way. It's a clunky method but the best available for me personally. 1
