Ammunition being expended without firing in all planes

Hey, I hope I'm posting in the right place :3

 

When playing solo, gun ammunition is being expended without firing in all aircraft. Does not happen when Autopilot is engaged. When turned off, ammo begins to tick down on its own. I don't play online much so I can't say if this happens in MP or not.

 

I have drawn a complete blank. The only thing I can think of would be if my Joystick is giving an input for "firing" which expends the ammo? But no visual or audio cues that the guns are being fired, not even the ammo counter in the cockpit.

 

I am using a Saitek x52 Pro, and I play with the HOTAS Properties window open - I can see all of the inputs. It doesn't appear to be "triggering" when the ammo counts down without firing.

 

Have not found any forums with this problem. Please halp!
