It would definitely be nice to have more user created maps to take some pressure off of the official team and flesh out the remaining eastern front scenarios.

Absolutely.

It would be nice if the Finnish team would document their individual work steps and write a map making tutorial, so that it will be easier to create community maps in the future. There are old tutorials available for RoF, but I think they aren't really up to date, moreover most of them are only available in Russian.

That would be ideal. After I finish my MiG project, I want to either start working on weapon sounds or get started in maps. Having some sort of idea how map making works would increase the number of people wanting to get involved.

Indeed! +1. But still , knowing how to do it, without the tools.... ?
The other possibility would to to open the  map creation option directly in the game, without having to use some developer tools that need some special contract with 777.
The map builder could be "locked" for small areas (like 50/50km) , this would give a sufficient idea of how hard it is to make a map and will create a kind of elimination process. The "new maps" being judged by 777 and only those having the patience and courage to build a complete map with needed criterias could be selected by 777 to receive the Full tools package and create a whole map.

ps: in il2-46, creating a map(North Lybia-aka Tobruk), took me 1 year, all by myself (almost, like 98%) and it was a much easier way as in BoX as it seems, so i knwo how time and devotion it takes to finish a map. ?

Besides the official DDs and updates this is the way to create a new path in the game. I mean, the plane set is getting there and all the other aspects as well. IMHO the Maps are right now the issue to tackle (our shortest leg). We desperately need many MORE maps. :)

A map of the Gulf of Finland with Brewster B-239 etc. would be an absolute dream come true.

Having recently read a book about Hans Döbrich and JG5 stationed in Petsamo,  I think the Arctic Sea front would definitely make an interesting campaign. Compact, yet exotic area of operations, lots of different planes on both sides and good variety of missions, especially attacking/defending the arctic supply convoys to Murmansk and Archangeli.

Always was a fan of the Northern Russian Front in the original IL-2. Something like this would be cool down the road.

Project page is removed. The main purpose of that page was attract attention to developers and some Russian and Ukrainia map makers but now it is done.  It was also better tell to community something about our map plans that there are not coming any overlapping map projects with this. We continue our work and everything is fine but we can not tell anything more of the map production just now! ;)

Hey that´s good to hear. I keep my fingers crossed for your project. I would love to see it integrated in BoX with maybe some iconic planes and a career mode for us single player folks.

Thanks for the comforting info Kanttori. I already started to look for a good old rope when I thought that project has been scrapped. ?

It would be so great if 1C/777 would help and make some new planes and add it to store. Would be awesome to see do17, hurracine and already get ju87B2 so we can fly in moscow career :scratch_one-s_head:
