Crump Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Maybe, but how else do you land in poor visibility? Remember the final stages of the Stalingrad battle took place in a bad winter. I think radio navigation is essential for mid- to late-war air operations, and it was definitely part of the eastern front scene. Here's an idea: I wonder if anyone has actual meteorological data for the Stalingrad sector in late 42 to early 43. Wouldn't it be great to have the option to turn on actual weather conditions (or near enough to them) inside BOS? In IL-2 1946 (TD) at the moment the sim shows the correct phases of the moon by date. Cheers, 4Shades I would like to see instrument conditions along with the navigation and guidance equipment. If resources and time is an issue there might be better ways to spend it for the developers.
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) Silly question, did the VVS have any instrument landing equipment in late '42? I mean most of their aircraft didn't have two way radios. Edited December 28, 2012 by ElAurens
Crump Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) I do not know. Good question. Also, you do not need a two way radio. Localizer's are a receiver guided by a directional antenna. The transmitter is ground based. IIRC, the most common method of guidance back then was morse code style dots and dashes with a constant tone when on course. Edited December 28, 2012 by Crump
ACG_Suardi Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) I'm a huge fan of 777 and RoF. When I heard that they'll be involved in the next IL2 sim it was like a dream come true for me.At first the "not Clickable Cokcpits" was a very sad sentence. For me is very boering press "I" and see the engine starting. In WWI aircrafts, this is not a problem, all planes are very simple to operate. But we have to understand the situation and reading this forum I realize that a lot of people seems to not care about a more complex operation with checklists and etc...For sure de CEM will be great, it works in a amazing way in RoF.I would like to see navegation beacon like the German Lorenz and for god sake, please devs, don't put a ADF appointing to a virtual point on the map like in IL2 1946 (standard version). I belive this type of beacons wasn't availabe in such improvised airfields located around stalingrad, so make the flight 100% visual, do not create fictional beacons on the map. Non "clickable cockpits" necessary dont mean only magical "I" for starter engine, select fuel tanks, turn on magnetos (for effect - not for "show" as implemented in CloD), etc. can be implmented by keyboards commands. I hope see some degree of this - but not like A2A, DCS. Sokol1
ACG_Suardi Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) Agree Sokol...Magnetos selections are available since the first version of IL2, but they are always already in "both" position in the beginning of the mission!!!! And I understood that it's not the objetctive of the sim be a "trainer", like they said... and I don't understand nothing about program a software, but the "clickable cockpit" it's used since FS 2004... we are in 2013, is It real so difficult to do??? But ok, it's not the objective and they can do a very good sim even without this. I really hope they compensate this with other thinks, and I trust they'll do... RoF is outstanding, I love to fly there. For example we have this type of mission "Artilliery Spottin" (video), this is very nice!!!! Edited January 2, 2013 by rcsuardi
