My OTT has been a bit glitchy recently 7 i've been thinking of making the same sort of small adjustments through steam, mostly to eliminate gunsight/propeller stutters and resolution problems with Rift, Esp. Super Samplings. the problem is that i have no real idea how to do this after I've opened the Steam VR utility on my tool bar.can someone give me a helping hand? Thanks!

I can't help on Steam VR settings as I prefer using the OTT, I am sure others here will.

I can tell you my OTT was iffy after the update to 1.29 in Oculus Software.

I uninstalled the Tray Tool, and installed it again fresh and that took care of the iffy for me.

However I would mention after the fresh install mine would not start up, just hung up on loading. I had saved the leftover files after the uninstall, OTT.db and OTT.log, so I copied them back in and all was well again. So if you do that do not get rid of those files.

I am suffering from just what you describe , & have done the uninstall /re-install but alas not saved the files you mention. It does appear to be operating but no voice confirmation, game profiles except what i added & i cannot get the 'starting up ,please wait" message to go away.?

I don´t use OTT, only SteamVR to set the SS factor.

You only need to check the manual override checkbox and set the % (on the Video tab). More info here:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/36160-supersampling-ratios-rift-vs-vivepro-vs-odyssey

To deactivate ASW just press Ctrl+Numpad1 (this is a shortcut from Oculus)

In OTT I have SS set at 1.7 now which if I understand it is about the maximum & I have ASW =Off.So when it all works I'm happy , but the problem is it doesn't always kick in.So I wonder if doing the same settings in Steam might be more dependable. My problem is that I don't know how to get to the proper place in Steam to do so.I can't figure out the path that will work when I start the sim through Steam. It must be a sort of no-brainer,  which describes my mental powers to a "T".

Blitzen,

You need to uninstall and then re-install Oculus Tray Tool.

However save the ott.db and ott.log file , and paste back in after you do the new install.

I found after 1.29 of the Oculus software after I did this, my profile always seems to kick in now.

Might be worth a shot if you have not tried it.

Important to save those two files though, I found after I did the uninstall and re-install my OTT would get stuck on loading. After I put those two files back in all was well.

Of course I have tried this uninstall & install several times now , but will do as you recommend.Part of my problem is that when I reboot the PC,I "lose" OTT . I have to wait until I activate Oculus  & Steam & THEN re-install OTT ( by using the exe in the OTT folder in C:/Program files.) I do get all my preferred setting back & everything generally works fine until for some reason or another I have to re-start my PC again.I wish i could figure some way in which all this would happen without me having to do it manually- it might solve most of my current problems?

Not sure what is going on there with having to "re-activate" anything.

Don't reinstall by running any leftover files you may have.

Do these in this order:

Download the Oculus Tray Tool from the website.

1: Copy your ott.db and ott.log files in your current install to your desktop.

2: Completely uninstall ( not delete) the Oculus Tray Tool through it's uninstaller.

3: Delete any remaining files completely. Delete the whole Oculus Tray Tool folder. Insure you have those two files mentioned in step 1saved  before deleting.

4: Clean install Oculus Tray Tool ( but do not try to run it yet ). Do not install into the default C:// Program Files folder. Change the destination path to just C:// Oculus Tray Tool. Do not try to run yet.

5: Copy the ott.db and ott.log files back into Oculus Tray Tool folder. Do not run yet.

6: Right click the Oculus Tray Tool.exe and click on properties, in compatibility tab put a check mark in "run as administrator". Save and close.

7: Now launch Oculus Tray Tool. Go in and make sure your profiles are there and set appropriately. If not set them back up.

Hope this helps, as mentioned OTT is running great for me, and the above is what I did after Oculus updated to version 1.29 of the software and my OTT had gotten finicky.

The Steam VR settings are hard to locate. Once you have the Steam page up click on the VR icon in the upper right corner. It will display a small window indicating your headset is recognized etc. In the upper right corner of that little window is the Steam VR Settings. There you can make adjustments like ASW on/off and SS.

I've got to Steam "settings" But not finding which heading that would allow me to adjust SS &/or ASW.One more tip please?

Steam and SteamVR are different applications.

To launch SteamVR (and adjust there the SS factor) you can do it in three different ways:

1. Launch IL-2 with VR enabled, so a small SteamVR window will pop-up. Then Close IL-2 and SteamVR will remains open. So you can set SS then.

2. Launch Steam and then go to the top right corner VR  and launch SteamVR

3. Create a shortcut with this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\bin\win64\vrstartup.exe  (or wherever you install it)

By setting SS in SteamVR you don´t need OTT at all. So better to uninstall OTT to avoid conflicts.

Remember that you can set SS in SteamVR two places (in Video, where I do, or in Applications). Use just one but not both.

What setting here do you recommend? I have heard 1.8 is about as high as you can go.Does that sound right?

Also is ASW addressed on Steam or do I just turn it off in game? I read somewhere that ASW is the culprit guilty of the stuttering effect around the gunsight view through the propeller.

I thought you had gotten Oculus Tray Tool working?

If so you just set your ASW preference in there with a profile for BoS.

Or alternatively when you get in game use CTRL+Numpad 1 to disable ASW.

Or use Steam VR, but do not try to use both.

It depends on the VR device and the GPU you have.

We have done some tests to see how the graphics quality is increased when you increase SS:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/30771-how-much-ss-is-desirable-image-quality-samples/

With my Rift and my 1080Ti I normally use 180% or 200%.

The more SS you use the worse you will spot planes, so it is a trade off. But it helps a bit in the identification:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/32186-identification-in-vr-supersampling-and-aa-influence-sample-images/

You can use MSI afternburner to monitor the GPU load while you are playing, so you can check to not overload your GPU too much (below 90%).

The ASW is a technology invented by Oculus. It is totally independent from SteamVR.

To de-activate ASW you only need to press Ctrl+Numpad1. This keys are recognized by the runtime oculus application which is running in the background:

No use one or the other, not both.

Personally as I have an Oculus Rift I am very happy with using the Oculus Tray Tool.

If not for IL-2 I would not even bother with Steam, wish they would support the Rift natively.

+1 on that. Don, where do you point your OTT to in BOS to create a profile?

IL-2.

It should already be listed as that in your games in the profile tab.

Also remember to set OTT to " Run as Administrator".
