Preacherman Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Hi all, I steer my tanks with mouse and Keyboard. Now I am desperately looking for a kind of "cruise Control" key, because Pressing "Forward" all the time can be very annoying when travelling a longer distance. I guess there must be some sort of "throttle" key since the planes surely have them, but I cannot figure out how to use them for my tank. Furthermore, as of now it seems impossible to give your Driver any orders like in ARMA, where you can click at a point of the map and your Driver moves you there. Another Thing: I cannot get into commander position in Tiger, although I can go there in KV-1s. Am I missing something here? Help is much appreciated, Cheers! 1 1
hetstaine Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 Left Ctrl + c should move you around the Tiger to all positions. Since i am not worrying about planes for the moment i simplified all of mine so Side button on my mouse changes positions, H opens hatch, space enters sights etc. Fairly sure there is no movement commands as in Arma, wishful thinking Question for you, when zooming in the tanks does your head movement speed with mouse go glacial? I cannot figure out which control to change/modify to keep my mouse movement the same as when zoomed out where it is fine. The more i zoom in, the slower my mouse goes, painful. I have seen a few people ask this question now regards tanks but not seen any answer.
Preacherman Posted August 14, 2018 Author Posted August 14, 2018 Thx for your reply. Sorry, but the whole zooming Thing feels broken to me, too. In device selsction I had to Change from Mouse to Joystick (although I do not use one!) to bind zoom to mouse Wheel, which is very convenient. I tried to make my Keyboard layout similar to World of Tanks (yes, I know it is ARCADE): WASD for movement, Right click for Gunsight/ Zoomed view, Left click Fire, Space for machine gun. Q and E for gunsight height adjustmstment (this come in really Handy!, but you have to change "Start Engine", e.g. to Shift+E). Please can anyone help with my original question? Is there any way to Keep the tank moving Forward WITHOUT pressing the "Forward key" all the time? There must be some kind of "Throttle up" key since the planes do have them.
fiddlinjim Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I use a TM Warthog Hotas and set the forward movement with the throttle axis to the speed I want and leave it there and control the turning with my rudder pedals. Works great.

Perhaps the slider on ones joystick.

I love how this works in Steel beasts.. as the commander you simple press foreward once to give the driver a move forward slow command.. pressing again makes him move faster etc. Darkest Hour mod had the same sort of control "option". It's called incremental throttle.. google it.. also works great. basicly we need something like this when moving longer distances to just tell the driver to keep moving. This way you can take the role of the commander and keep an eye on the surroundings without having to keep your finger on the key. I see this as an absolute must in the final release. 1
Preacherman Posted August 14, 2018 Author Posted August 14, 2018 Okay, I use my HOTAS throttle to hold Speed and use Keyboard/ mouse for the rest.
DB605 Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 I also use X52 throttle and G27 wheel to steer, driving the tank like this is much more fun than using keyboard. Also bit more realistic as real Tiger has wheel too
Muzio Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 For those who use mouse and keyboard try this: press the forward key, then open the chat while still pressing forward, and then close the chat... The tank will keep moving and you can still turn it. To stop press forward once more.
JGr2/J5_Baeumer Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 Mapped to throttle on my stick works great and is realistic and allows me to creep at 2 km or full speed and anything in between.....
OldRavenNL Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 (edited) although mapping it to a throttle is a solution for now.. they still need to adress this.. You do not drive a tiger by constantly having to keep your foot on the gas. The way I remember driving the tiger.. when the engine is running you rev up the engine to 2500 rpm and it stays there. just like a plane.. no need to use a gas pedal. Then you clutch, set it in 1st gear.. gently release the clutch.. and you are off in 1st gear.. need more speed.. clutch again.. 2nd gear.. release clutch.. etc. You always keep the engine running at constant revs. Pick too high of a gear.. engine stalls.. etc Turning ratio is also tied to what gear you are in in the Tiger.. and when you put it in neutral you can do a neutral turn.. (not recommended in the manual) Edited August 16, 2018 by OldRavenNL
Preacherman Posted August 17, 2018 Author Posted August 17, 2018 (edited) You know the very old game Tiger vs T34 simulated EXACTLY this! If you didnt keep RPM in line with gears you killed the engine or overheated it. The actual driving part and sound of thst game was almost perfect. Edited August 17, 2018 by Preacherman
