216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Took my LaGG-3 for another armed recon, this time courtesy of DED and 72 AG. Seeing how quiet things were, I felt prompted to call other VVS planes to go bomb a bridge near Sekretov because the Luftwaffe was sleeping down here. Accidentally sent it to everyone, then bumped into Sekretov itself a few seconds later. That asides, I set fire to 27 ground targets and managed to make a perfect landing this time unlike my TAW stunt. The kind of mission that makes you go straight to the CP to proudly report every single detail to the commander

Picchio Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Going classical. Custom skin & ReShade Framework.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Consecutive bombing sorties on Fighting Legends. Axis shipping both times, both times the bombs hit, and both times the ships started smoking heavily but didn't quite sink. The second sortie was the eventful one though, and it shows how immersive this simulator can be. As I taxied to the apron to rearm and refuel, it was reported that one of our harbours was under attack. Though I had a decent load of fuel and a full drum of 20mm and 12.7mm ammunition, I decided it was safer to stock up again. I also knew that enemy intruders are elusive buggers so it was better to have a Plan B in case they were not there once I arrived. I bring my LaGG-3 to a stop at the apron, shut off the engine and prepare the next flight (15 seconds turnaround, amazing!). Full fuel, two 100kg bombs underwings, everything else factory-standard. I took the LaGG to the runway as quick as I could and off I went, pulling a steady 400km/h in a shallow climb, keeping track of my position relative to the harbour. It was conveniently located next to a German shipping lane, so the idea was to dive down, drop the bombs and proceed in the same direction to the harbour to catch whomever was harassing it. As the target came in sight, it was clear that the attackers were gone - no flak, no tracers or reports. This allowed me a calmer attack on the ships - five of them, two light plus three large. Flying at 1900m, I prepared myself and unopposed streaked downwards with the throttle closed and RPM a little back to keep speed in check. Nice and steady, smooth as butter, I drop my 200kg goodies, set to explode at contact, and start pulling on the stick. The following was the matter of about 3 seconds. The LaGG-3 responds beautifully to my commands, and starts a gentle and elegant climb as I bring the engine to work again. I look over my left shoulder and I see the enemy ship smoking heavily, shaken from what appear to have been two direct hits. As I bank gently to the right, at about 700m by now, I let out every single curse known to humanity. What was that? My vision is shaken, my LaGG-3 suffers a violent shudder and the canopy is blown clear from my aircraft. Reaction time is the main element of a combat pilot, particularly a fighter, so instinctively I roll and pull firmly but without excess to have a look at my surroundings and identify my assailant, losing some altitude in the process. I scan and scan, making sure to never stay stationary, but I can't get a visual. Flak, probably. Immediately I see that I am now headed into hostile territory so I make a sharp turn until the compass reads 33, my heading home. My engine is damaged so I have no time for animosity, and I fly right over the line of ships I just bombed, specifically over the last light ship. None of them open fire at me, and there seems to be no other flak gun or aircraft in the vicinity. Some luck. The Klimov is a strong bastard however, and through reduced RPM to 2000, throttle at the middle and a constant eye on the throttle it held nicely without puffs or anything like it. I cruised at 300km/h all the way home, at 900m - enough to bail out undisturbed, since the geography of the area made a crash landing suicide with its lakes, lakes, and trees everywhere. On final I got distracted and messed up the alignment, and ended up touching down right of the runway. I though I had to go around, of course, so I jammed the throttle forward hoping the engine would last a few seconds at 2700RPM. Alas, it didn't, coming to a full stop there and then as my LaGG bounced and jolted, safely halting on its own without any visible damage. Here you can see the fuselage punctured all the way from the rudder to the cockpit, sharing some love with the pilot too. The chat message politely informed I had fallen victim of a 37mm AAA gun, and by the extent of the damage it looks like a pretty neat direct hit from the straight six which rattled the whole aircraft. 1
