Greetings fellow aviators,

I have read (somewhere) that one should not run the Oculus Home program whilst flight simming as it eats up some of your resources. The advice was to select 'Run as Administrator' and then ( I presume) that should have stopped Oculus Home from opening?

Well, I found the Oculus Home executable, right clicked on the icon, scrolled down the list and chose 'Run as Administrator'... all that happened is that Oculus Home loaded up!

I may have assumed/presumed too much.

So, can someone who knows this workaround enlighten us noobs as to what your actually supposed to do to stop Oculus Home from loading up before loading IL-2.exe

Much appreciated.

Oculus has disabled that little trick at some point recently, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

I myself never saw any appreciable difference in running with or without Home.

Thanks for the reply, dburne. It certainly didn't work when I tried it.

However, it's reassuring that you didn't notice the difference. Maybe with my lower spec rig it might've made more of a differance, who knows?

You right click oculus and go to properties, select the compatability tab then check the run as administrator box. Now when you start steam vr it will not launch oculus home. It still works you just did it wrong.

That is odd folks have been reporting over on the Oculus forums this was not working any longer.

I have not tried it in a while myself as I preferred running with Home on, as my profile's in Oculus Tray Tool were not applying appropriately without it. And I could not tell any discernible difference.

Yeah I've considered not using it anymore, it does still work though. Having to turn off ASW everytime I start the game is certainly annoying. I didn't notice any performance gain myself. I just don't like having 4-5 programs running at the same time. Probably stems from my windows XP days. Been using opentrack and running the game maxed out recently though so the oculus has taken a seat for now. Although after playing for a couple of hours I am starting to miss the immersion, the graphics can only hold my attention for so long.

You saying it doesn't work? Works for me just fine. I can take a video of it if you'd like. Not sure why I'd lie about something so trivial.

Mileage may be different depending on config. When I run Oculus home as admin I get no image in my headset. My monitor shows the double vr screen so steamvr is running but nothing in the headset. My rift has the 1.29 firmware update and running nvidia 1070.

Just not for me, yes. You're psyched if it works for you...blows having to open oculus every time. I have the latest firmware too which might be an issue

You are making sure you are right clicking on oculus, going to properties, then the compatibility tab and choosing run as administrator. You are not supposed to start oculus home. If you do close it, then start steam VR and oculus home will not launch. It works, I am on all the latest oculus software. Apparently nobodies listening on how to do it properly and thinking you just click run as admin after right clicking the icon. This does nothing.

Hi JonRedcorn,

I do it as you describe. Setting admin in the properies tab. SteamVr runs but I get no image in Rift.

I can confirm that setting Oculus as admin will no longer launch Oculus Home. I bought a VR cover and every time I started my PC, Oculus started opening due to the sensor being blocked. This stopped Oculus Home from opening at startup, but also only opens SteamVR when I launch IL2. Everything works fine.

If it doesn't work for you maybe try running oculus tray tool and restart the Oculus Runtime/ Service? For me it is always running regardless of Home being open, but if it is not for you then that may explain things not working without Oc Home.

I wouldn't stress about it though, the days of Home consuming CPU like crazy seem to be gone. I don't see much benefit to messing with this anymore.

You set oculus to run as admin? You wont get an image till you start the game up. Or at least if steamVR is open you should see the steam VR home area, I have mine turned off though.

Gep set to run as admin. Done it before. But my 2d screen shows the menu but Rift has no image.

I have this problem as well since today I upgrade all the Rift stuff to Rift Core 2.0 , which it is nice but I don't need it.

Now I have to have running Oculus Home in order to have the image on the Rift.

If I set the checkbox to run as admin then no image on the Rift

What the hell, I just updated in a vanish attemp to watch Oculus Connect 5 in the Dash panel. But it didn't work.

OC5 is Wed. and Thurs. - 26th and 27th.

Yes AFAIK Rift Core 2.0 Beta currently requires Oculus Home to be running.

I like Rift Core 2.0 myself.

HAHAHA!! you are right!!.,  I tought it was today and was trying to see the live stream through all the means.

Thank you Don!

BTW, How are you going to watch the Keynote?

In any case, I will be traveling those days, so unless it is livestream in YouTube o Twitch I will not be able to see it.

I have just works again as before.

SOLUTION: Deactivate the Rift core 2.0

You are quite welcome.

I will probably try watching it in Rift Core 2/ Dash, at least the Keynote on Wed.

I wish they would stream it again to the Rift like they did last year.

It may not be worth the effort of setting Oculus Home Rift Core 2.0 with a virtual monitor and embedding the video, as it will still be just a 2d monitor displayed in the Oculus Home environment in the Rift. One could easily just use the monitor function of Oculus Home to view the live stream from the Facebook page as well, and for 2d I might rather just watch it from the Facebook page on my regular monitor anyway for clarity.

Oculus Go users will get to see it streamed in regular VR ( the nerve!).

How?

In the Oculus Home windows application I think there is an option (I think in Settings and then Beta) where you can switch off the "Rift Core 2.0 beta", so you came back to the original Oculus Home view (that penthouse with a swimming pool).

By doing that, I was able later to launch IL-2 which launch automatically SteamVR and without starting Oculus Home.

Worked! ?

Orlok what result are you getting? Oculus home still autostarting or no image in the rift?

I'll try again when I get to my desk.

I'm getting no image as well.

Any Ideas?

I have just returned to Il-2 Sturmovik Great Battles after a year away. It used to work fine but now it seems that I need Oculus Home running in order to have an image in the Rift CV1 headset.

I had disabled it by right clicking the icon, going to properties, selecting the compatability tab then I checked the run as administrator box...

It showed the game on screen but nothing in the headset. Starting the game doesn't give an image either, unless Oculus Home is already running.

Has anyone found a work around?

The way we used to be able to do that can not be done anymore, Oculus changed that in an update around first of the year IIRC.

You can now though in the Oculus Home settings choose for Home not to be displayed, only the Dash panel will come up.

I myself can't tell any difference in performance anyway, as Home always fades to gray when launching a game.

For me it's hard to tell, I thought my framerates were down a bit since the last time I played which was without Oculus Home, but I could be imagining things. I've got an i5 6700k to install yet, so might see the framerates come up again ?

Thanks for the response.
