Herne Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Think I should have some free time all to myself this weekend and would like to spend some of it getting more familiar with CloD. The aim for me here is really just to get my controls set up as similar as I can to what I have in BoX and get myself familiar with the engine management, so that once VR finally drops, I'm ready to dive straight in and have fun. I would like to know about engine settings. In BoX we get the specification tab, which tells us what settings to use and for how long. So could someone tell me what I should use for :- Spitfire Hurricane BF109 Stuka I'll just start with those four for now. Also I would like to know how to get rid of the HUD instruments. I'm going to be using the mouse for looking around the cockpit until VR patch drops, so I won't be putting too much time into this, but enough hopefully that flying the CloD birds is familiar enough that I'm ready for when it finally does. Oh and last question. Does anyone know if a BoX style career mode is planned for CloD ?

Herne Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 (edited) got any tips for RPM's and boost settings for nominal, combat and wep and how long they can be used for ? Even the 109's are manual in this time period aren't they ? Edit: I had missed your link. Thanks for this. look forward to taking the spit IIA for a spin with the rotol fixed speed prop. Looks like I should have everything I need to get started. thanks Edited August 10, 2018 by =FEW=Herne 1
ATAG_kiwiflieger Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 109/110 continuous cruise I usually hold 1.2 ATA 2300 RPM. Combat mode can be anything up to 1.3 ATA 2450 RPM, but wouldn't hold this for any more than 7 minutes. I think the emergency power is modelled different to BoX in that you have to assign a button to "Toggle Emergency Power", which in the German fighters is on a 1-minute timer, instead of just moving the throttle fully forwards. Don't let the RPM go above 2500 unless short bursts only and then never take it above 2700 if you want to keep your engine spinning. At high altitudes (6K and up) the 601N engines in the 109E4N/110C4N can go up to 2600RPM in the cruise but watch the temperatures to make sure they don't go above 105 degC for the oil and 100 degC for the water. Recommended oil temperature to keep it at is about 95 and water I usually keep around 90. If you are playing multiplayer, hop on Teamspeak and just ask around, people will help out 99% of the time to get you up and running and are always glad to have bait a wingman. Do note that if you are bombing anything you will need to select the bombs you are using and the appropriate fusing for those bombs, otherwise if they are dropped too low they won't go off. The HUD instruments you refer to I believe can be removed by unticking the box in Realism settings for "Turn cockpit off" or something like that. Most MP servers are full real and won't have this anyway if that's the route you're taking. Good luck and see you in the skies

Thanks for this. I was flying the spit last night, and I had only bound the boost cut off, which my understanding was it was kind of like a gate on the throttle. you could not advance the throttle beyond this point if the gate was closed, but I wondered why I was unable to get extra boost. Looks like I need to bind WEP as well. I had two flights online first which probably was not ideal, because I was still setting up my bindings having to trim the ac, escape to options menu, and hope I was still flying by the time I returned to flight lol. Needless to say during this time I got hopelessly lost. One thing I found interesting on ATAG's server last night was that I was flying over a frozen english landscape. my second attempt, after thinking about what happened it appears that i must have had too much back pressure on the stick on take off. first one wing was dropping then the other. not aware I did anything different compared to the first take off, but it is possible. I ended up ploughing into airfield object at high speed. I figured it might be better to set the rest up in single player so started the english campaign. Think this might have been using less complex settings though, as rpm and throttle seemed to be linked and I didn't know how to separate them, still enjoyed flying around though and checking out the scenery. Thanks for the offer of joining TS for comms, but this really was all about familiarity of the controls for me, I have no head tracking for CloD and am eagerly awaiting the day when the VR patch drops. I had the same problem in BoX, even though I was a founder I couldn't really enjoy the game until the introduction of VR came along. |'ll check out some of the german birds later today.
BB5000 Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) Boost-cutoff ”off” should be enough to get more boost..To really see a difference, make sure you fly with 100 oct fuel. Edited August 11, 2018 by BB5000
