[VR] [Single player only] VR camera seems to constantly drift to odd places

Hello there,

I noticed a weird camera issue in IL2BoX. During single player missions, the VR head position drifts throughout the cockpit. It seems to always drift toward some position that's not quite but close to center. So if I move my head up, it'll drift down, if I move it to the right, it'll move left again. This is a huge annoyance because it means you cannot look at the reticule directly - the camera will draw you away from it.

Interestingly, this does not happen during multiplayer. Here, the camera remains fine where it is. Because the problem occurs exclusively during single player I'm thinking this must be a settings issue.

I've tried searching the forums and on Google. I found other cases where the head position wasn't right but those people seemed to have problems with their sensors (such as only having 3DoF available). I think this issue is really separate.

If someone knows which setting I have to change for my single player camera/head position to behave exactly as in multiplayer, I'd be very grateful.

Are you in SP or MP?

Some servers (expert for eg )have VR limits on, and whilst I see why the devs implemented it, It simply doesnt work as intended (IMHO)

You can turn it off in the difficulty menu  for SP.

If I remember correctly, even if you turn it off (VR Limits), it will have no effect on Expert and Custom settings. You can only look freely on Normal setting.

It does not matter if it is MP or SP.

Hello OrLoK and 4driano,

Thank you for the replies! I think I need to clarify. The problem is not that the VR view is limited. That is absolutely fine. The multiplayer servers I use normally have limited VR view, but the viewpoint behaves completely fine there. If you don't move your head, the viewpoint remains where it should be.

The issue only occurs in single player. The problem here is that the headset viewpoint is constantly drifting around even if you don't move your head. For instance, after you reset the VR view with the 'VR default' button, your headset position should be stable (assuming that you do not move of course). After all you've just reset the headset to a place where there should be no problems. But even then, during single player, the viewpoint will still float around. This issue occurs independently of the 'limit VR view' option.

I am using custom settings for single player (expert settings +  optional HUD). I'll see if switching back and forth between expert and normal helps. Maybe there's some underlying setting that is 'stuck' on an odd value. I will report back asap.

The drift you are explaining sounds like the experience you get when you have the map open in VR for multiplayer?

Is it the same?

I have the same problem but only when i hit pause. Maybe trough some bug the Game thinks it's in pause mode wich would explain why it's only happening in SP.

The game slowly moves the head towards a central position (which it decides on, regardless of VR recenter). If you deviate from that while the game is pause or in a weird mode (like map open) it will gently move you back into position.

I found recalibrating my VR space in Rift/Vive and ensuring that (with the game in 2D mode) my default view location was roughly in the right spot stopped this problem from happening all the time. You can also try recentering the default view (num5) as well as VR recenter.

Yep, me too - but then I couldn't be arsed switching between roomscale and seated mode and re calibrating.

Hopefully it gets fixed by the developers.

ah, ok!

Yes, its a bug I get too.

I have record track bound to my mouse button and if I press it, I too get the mini bounding issue, going to an external view sometimes fixes it.

I have reported this issue before but not had any confirmation that its been noted. :)

So I managed to solve the issue. I'm not sure how that solved it, but essentially I just set the difficulty to to 'expert' and the viewpoint stopped floating. After that I could set it back to 'normal' and then back to 'custom' without the problem re-occuring. I could also disable the VR viewpoint limits without issues now. I would like to thank you all for your help!
