=X51=VC_ Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I remember when Kuban released there were a few threads saying VR performance dropped. I took a break from the game around then and have parked my headset a bit recently as well. Now getting the itch to jump back in, what is currently the most stable and generally most advisable Nvidia driver version for playing IL2 in VR with the Vive?
4driano Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Hi, I am using the "385.28" and I don't have any problems. Newer versions were getting me issues in any VR title, not just IL-2.
dburne Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Well I have a Rift instead of Vive, but I have always been one of those that always update to the latest. I really can't say I have seen any big difference between the Nvidia drivers. Kuban is harder on performance than the other maps, but it is the latest and has a lot to it with the terrain, mountains , and sea. I seem to have gained a little VR performance improvement in Kuban of very late, but can't really say as to why. Seemed to happen around this latest update. But even so, I have always found Kuban very playable for me and a smooth experience. I just turn the fps counter off and not worry with it.

Good to know. 1 hour ago, dburne said: Well I have a Rift instead of Vive, but I have always been one of those that always update to the latest. I'm very wary of graphics driver updates since one bricked my GPU a few years ago. Guess I'll give it a go with my current one and see if I feel the need to upgrade.. I have flown on the Kuban map in MP before the BoK release, no issues, but I was under the impression the 3.0 version upgraded the graphics everywhere and caused issues separate to the map itself. At least that's what some threads at the time implied.
Wraithzlt Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I'm a Vive user also. I noticed a definite drop in performance and especially the plane Indentification with the 3.0x updates. Vive In general suffers more from stuttering than the Rift. I have found that I get a noticible reduction in stuttering with the nvidia 378.78 driver compared to any newer driver. This stuttering with the vive can be seen even at 89fps with newer drivers for me. I'm not cranking the graphics either. I'm running 140% steamvr SS Low, no saoo or hdr. 70km render and normal landscape, 4k and sharpen. No AA. Low Shadows. No mirrors. The only reason I started using 378.78 is because FenrisWolf made a post about 378 and Windows ver1607 giving better Vr performance in some games. Btw I just upgraded my system from my sig to an 8700k @ 5ghz with 3200 ddr4 ram gtx 1080. M2 ssd. I still prefer Low in-game for best smoothness in Mp servers. 1

Did you only use that driver - or also reverted back to the earlier version of Windows?
Wraithzlt Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I reverted to Windows 10 ver1607. I could see the difference with the smoothness of Il2 between the different drivers (378.78, 38x.xx and 391.xx) because Windows would ninja update the drivers in the background after i had installed 378.78 (and running Il2 smoothly) and I would restart Il2 and it would be stuttering again! I will add that I haven't tried the latest Windows 10 updates with the latest drivers to see it there is an improvement since before I tried the 378 Win1607 "fix".
=X51=VC_ Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 (edited) Hmm, I had no issues on 38x.xx before 3.0, haven't had time to fly yet to test if it's still good for me. Not that it's something I'm willing to do, but I thought it was impossible to roll back or not upgrade Windows 10, no? Isn't it designed to force upgrades? Having said that, I just let my Windows update automatically and it doesn't touch my graphics drivers. There are a few general threads on Nvidia forums confirming VR issues with driver versions from early this year but then there's one that says issues are solved from 397.64 onwards. Anyone using something that recent? Edited August 8, 2018 by =X51=VC_
