P40's .50cals not causing fuel/black smoke vs AI

I don't know if it's just me, but I was playing a career sortie today in the p40, sprayed the sh*t out of a 109 on multiple occasions, scoring at least 50 hits, and there was no fuel leakage whatsoever - in fact I wouldn't have known i'd hit him if it wasn't for the little bullet impact explosion things - that and the fact that the wing came off eventually. It appears to be a purely visual bug. 

 

I've tested this on multiple occasions, even using other planes to see if they have the problem - it appears to be a problem with the p40 only...anyone else seen anything like this?
