No_85_Gramps Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Just curious but shouldn't the AAA protecting airfields stop while a dogfight is going on over the field ? If not, then what are the chances of flak hitting a friendly plane?
Gambit21 Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 You can actually set the logic to behave this way (AAA stop when Friendlies overhead) but in most circumstances you don’t want this.
Godspeed Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 (edited) Yesterday my career got saved by airfield AA. Heavy AA got direct hit on Yak-1 what was on my six i had no ammo left. Yak-1 turned into atoms nice fireworks too. I have also seen some problems with the airfield AA also. Some airfields have planes parked on them but there is no AA protecting them. If this kind of airfields are not in use there should be no parked planes like Bf110's as decoration. Edited August 6, 2018 by Godspeed
No_85_Gramps Posted August 6, 2018 Author Posted August 6, 2018 Interesting info/comments. I wonder if anyone recalls being shot down by friendly flak? If there are no chances, in game, of being hit by friendly flak that presents an advantage to them. Of course, and I am guilty of this, running for the protection of a friendly airfield can save your butt as Godspeed mentions.

Of course there's a chance of getting hit by friendly flak - the damage model is not coalition specific. The higher the AI setting, the less chance there is of getting hit by friendly AA, but the more unrealistic it's accuracy is. (laser guided) "Low" is the only plausible setting, and like I've said before, more or less is equal to real life "ace" gunnery. Which means it mostly misses...but not always. 1

I have been shot down in a couple of occasions by my own AA above the airfield. But that is a super rare event.

Me too - not so bad, still able to down the plane I was chasing and land, but certainly took a hit. If you watch your airfield AA guns while they are firing you will see that they tend to miss behind rather than in front - so if you chase closely an enemy fighter that is attacking your wingmen while they are landing I suspect you are more likely to get hit than the enemy!

This is 'good' old tradition. It was much worse in 1946. When I am chased by an enemy fighter at my airfield, I always try not to be between the AA guns and the enemy, so the chance, they shoot at me is lower, but it is no garanty anyway.
Talon_ Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I had my first career ended by an overenthusiastic airfield gunner ?
