SeaQuark Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Hey folks, wow, yeah.... Wasn't expecting this amount of replies. But thanks for the opinions! I decided to give War Thunder a spin, as it was free. Scoff if you will, but I am actually running a brand new Macbook Pro with OS 10.9, with Windows 7 installed. War Thunder runs flawlessly, and from research it looks like IL-2 will as well. I just gave WT a quick spin, with only my mouse. It seems fun enough, but I definitely dislike how light and springy the aircraft control feels-- there's no sense of weight or effort really. I've ordered the stick I originally posted, and will try the "Simulator Mode." Assuming I enjoy that, from there, I may just go with Battle of Stalingrad. The Eastern Front is what interests me the most, and why not go with the latest & greatest. Thanks for all the advice!
DD_bongodriver Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Okay. You potentially have easy mode on then. Nope.
Fifi Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 The Eastern Front is what interests me the most, and why not go with the latest & greatest. So no doubt = go for it! (but be patient, it's not even half finished)

Sounds like a plan, good luck and let us know how it progresses for you! And welcome to WWII combat flight simulations!!
Requiem Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Okay. You potentially have easy mode on then. I haven't tried it in BoS yet, but it is possible to do using Rise of Flight aircraft.
kestrel79 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Don't bother with any other game mode other than Simulator Battles in Warthunder if you like flight sims. It's just way too arcade. But if you only have a mouse it is easier to control the planes in those modes.

Reflected Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Welcome to the flightsimming world! I would also recommend RoF. Currently it's the best flight sim out there, with BoS coming up nicely. It's free - the demo, that is - with 2 planes. The Fokker DVII is quite easy to handle, it will be perfect to familiarize yourself with the concept of flying. Not many levers and swithches to handle, those machines fly relatively slowly too. Then, if you decide you like it and you're ready for the next challenge, by that time BoS will be closer to release, you can jump on this train when everything is finished and ironed out. Indeed, great times to be a flight simmer
