WWZed Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 ROF SKINS, both historical and fictional can be taken from ROF directory for aircraft specific and dropped into FC skins directory DIRECTLY. End result ALL of the skins are usable when you go to your aircraft setup choose custom and there they are!
TG-55Panthercules Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 OMG that's so cool. Really wish I wasn't away from my RoF/BoX PC and can't check any of this out. How do the old RoF skins look in FC?
SeaW0lf Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 I think the ROF skins are too dark in comparison (at least the ones I tried). The lighting is different, as the lighting in BOX is not the same as in ROF. So the templates have a different darkness tone / lighting. If you take the Yak template and compare with the Spad 13 template, the tones are not the same. It works, but I think the ideal would be to redo them with the new templates for the new engine. At least this is my first impression flying with a ROF skin (Dr.1) in BOX.
migmadmarine Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 They make for a nice interim, but I do look forward to their (hopeful) 4k facelifts.
J5_Gamecock Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 I've been told that the ROF skins look better if you lighten the Alpha layer by %30 or so.... Would like to see results from someone who has tried this. 1

unreasonable Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 If you use GIMP you may want to try increasing Brightness and Contrast: this is with Brightness +40, Contrast +15 and looks much better than zero, zero.

What format of the file are you using? Can you edit the dds files?

Actually I adjusted the GIMP format .xcf file of the multi-layer template, before extracting to dds file, so this is only useful for skins you have made yourself. I have not tried adjusting dds files yet. This will probably need DXT Bitmap Manipulator and then extracting to editor, and it is a bit of a pain, so I probably will not bother.

JG1_Vonrd Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I just lightened the files in both brightness and contrast (in Photoshop) by 30% and it looks good. I haven't messed with the alpha but they don't seem to have the "wet look" that other BOX planes have (I hate the "wet look" BTW... looks like a Rat Rod with 4 coats of clear). It can be alleviated by judicial manipulation of the alpha... see this thread:

Blitzen Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I transferred all my Dr-1 & SPAD skins & found they did all work but like others found that in use they are very dark,so may I ask what app might I buy/get for free that will allow me to lighten these dds.skins? My Photoshop5 refuses to work on dds images & the one I downloaded from Microsoft does allow me too edit the skins but will only save them as jpegs that of course are useless in game. This isn’t a big deal and I don’t want to pay a fortune to solve ....after all new Custom skins from developers or third party skinners working on new or these edited skins aren’t far off...
JG1_Vonrd Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Get Dtxbmp and convert dds to bmp. Edit in PS then convert back to dds. http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm
Blitzen Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Many thanks- this was a quick easy download & install, but I have a problem you can probably help me with.I’m used to working exclusively with PhotoShop where I have a simple options of lightening ,contrast etc., but I am not seeing an easy way of doing it with the RoF skins.I can choose the skin I want to edit, but once I’ve got it , I cannot see a way to lighten it .If you can walk me through it ,I think I can figure out the way to save it as a dds. In the BoX skins folder. Thanks in advance.
JG1_Vonrd Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 I'm using CS2 but I think PS5 should be basically the same. Go to the "Image" tab. Choose "Adjustments" then "Brightness / contrast" and either adjust the sliders or type in "-30" in the window for each.
Blitzen Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 No "Adjustments' option-I can go to "editor' but there doesn't seem to be an option there either.I'm stumped.

Type "photoshop how lighten image" into Google, and provided it does not think this is hate speech, it will probably find some places that tell you the answer.
No.23_Triggers Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Guys - the 4k template was just released! It's over on the templates list on the main forum! 1

Torso Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Question for all. I see the templates have been released for the FC planes but I can't see any new skins available for it yet. Are there any posted? I saw you can use RoF skins but it seems you need to download a ton of files and extract them all. Also, they seem to need to be adjusted to look more correct. Isn't there a way to just get skins for the 2 planes we have currently? Has anyone posted corrected ones? Or am I missing something?
