DusJG/1Caeser Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Hi, what about to add middle british bombers (with only 2 Engines) like the Avro Manchester or Bristol Blenheim etc. to Battle of Bodenplatte? I would love to see (in the future) Bombers like the Avro Lancaster or Handley Page Halifax. This would be so great! ? Best greetings, Aljoscha
Chief_Mouser Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Errr... because the Manchester and Blenheim were long obsolete and didn't take part in Bodenplatte or anything else in Europe at that time?
AndyJWest Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 There were only ever 202 Manchesters built. Even during the 16 months or so they were in use by bomber command they were of limited significance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Manchester#Operational_history
DusJG/1Caeser Posted August 1, 2018 Author Posted August 1, 2018 I suggested the Avro Manchester as a substitute for the Avro Lancaster. Because the Avro Lancaster can´t implemented yet, because of it´s 4 engine. I know that only 202 Manchesters where ever built, but it would be a nice extra! 23 hours ago, 216th_Cat said: Errr... because the Manchester and Blenheim were long obsolete and didn't take part in Bodenplatte or anything else in Europe at that time? Oh, I didn´t knowed it that the Blenheim was retired in 1944. Sorry.

The issue with heavy bombers isn't just the number of engines: more gunners make for more CPU demands for AI, and having to model multiple crew positions makes them more expensive too. There are multiple threads explaining this already. If the devs want to add a British Bodenplatte time-period 2-engined bomber, the obvious choice is the Mosquito. 1

And what about the Vickers Wellington? It was retired in 1945, has only two gunners and two engines.
Chief_Mouser Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 (edited) Wellington - no. Long gone from the European theatre by 1945. Used mainly by Coastal Command or as a trainer once it was retired from night-bombing duties (last mission October 1943). Edited August 2, 2018 by 216th_Cat
DusJG/1Caeser Posted August 6, 2018 Author Posted August 6, 2018 Oh, ok. Thank you for closing my knowlege gap. XD
Trog1odyte Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Mosquito and Beaufighter would certainly be nice.
Chief_Mouser Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Love the Beaufighter but was it around in Europe in early 1945? The Mosquito had replaced it as the primary RAF nightfighter by then; not sure if the USAAF were still using them in southern Europe. Where I would love to see it is in the southwest Pacific with the RAAF. Anyone for the Battle of the Bismarck Sea? Il-2 BoBS .
Trog1odyte Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) Yes, the Beau was in use until the end. For example, U-2338 was sunk by Beaufighters on 4 May 45. The RAF used Beaus in the Greek civil war during 1946. Rocket attack against Italian units in Seisenberg (now Zuzemberk, Slovenia) in Feb 45: Edited September 4, 2018 by Trog1odyte added photo
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) Any amerucan twin engine bomber makes more sense tbh. B-25, B-26, A-20G, A-20J, ect. Edited September 4, 2018 by 6./ZG26_5tuka

IIRC there was also a squadron (or a flight) of Wellingtons in the 2nd TAF used for specialized night recon which was based at one of the airfields attacked during Bodenplatte.
