Cost and is it worth it?

I used to play ROF when it first came out.  Loved the game.  I have not played it in awhile but the IL2 flying circus caught my eye.  Is it worth getting the new game?  I think it is priced too high for early access.  What's your opinion?

The price will be just about in-keeping with the rest of the series by the time it's complete (Vol 1 that is).

Factor in x4 FC volumes at that price and we're probably not far away from the price of buying all the RoF planes.

Whether or not anyone thinks it's too much to pay for a computer game is opinion I guess, I certainly used to think that.

If I had an issue with EA I'd say it's a bit early in the case of FC1.

We could be stuck with 2 planes for long enough, long enough for interest to wane potentially.

Then there's the public reaction to aspects of the game that aren't complete or even done yet, always risky with the RoF crowd !

But will it all be worth it in the end... I suspect it will ;)

If you have VR then I would say it is definitely already worth it. I tend not to buy Early Access games, because I've been burned by a few. I have no worries with this Dev Studio though. From what I've seen, they have a tendency to under promise, then over deliver.

Even if FC goes largely on the back burner for now, I think we can be sure that its going to turn out to be a great game, that will continue to improve over the years just has the great battles series has.

It's too early to tell.  It depends if Flying Circus can remedy the errors in the discontinued Rise of Flight.  Left-turn AI, Miracle-observer firing arcs, Armoured pilots, Hollywood wing loss, 10-second smoke and flames and a career that could only manage 50% of the output of your average QMB mission.  I know these things are dumb and boring for developers, but they really matter if you're playing the game.

Wasn't there something whacky about the balloons self destructing on impact too? Seems there was, it's been a while since I've flown it.

I'm all for the revamp of ROF and plunked down the cash last night in order to back that claim up. I think with all the new updated graphics, the new map they are working on, future planes, etc. it's worth it. The devs seem to take input to heart from what I've seen over the years and hopefully this will follow through with FC as it continues forward.

The only thing I'm getting a bit scared of is them stretching their resources too thin. They have many different projects going on now plus the looming Pacific theater I wonder how this will affect updates and the game plan in general in so far as release dates for all of these great projects, but I'm sure they already had quite a few round table discussions on this. It would be nice (unlike what sorta happened in ROF) if everything was spit shined and polished before they more or less give up support and move on to other interest. I guess it's a leap of faith with FC when you look back upon ROF and some of the annoying anomalies that still exist with it.

1C and 777 are tops in my book and one of the few left that hasn't abandoned the PC in a world that seems to be dominated by the thumb twitching arcade game crowd.

If I understand it correctly, they have 3rd party help to import the assets and update them for the modern game engine. Therefore at least for volume one of FC, little dev resource is necessary to launch the product. They will of course need to find time to build out the career / missions etc in future chapters, but I honestly don't think that the studio would have taken the job on, if they were not confident that they could see it through.

Next few years are going to be exciting times for IL2

I mentioned this on the ROF forums.

We paid $50 for ROF in 2009, and for this we got 4 planes and a map. We could only fly co-op in MP and if IIRC the career game was unfinished. We had global stats that never worked as planned and server hosting was only done by very few. After a few months, new plane releases, at 7-8 bucks a pop.  I dare say that I wasn't the only one who was thrilled by it all.  Now, almost 10 years later, although the "gloss" has worn off over the years, I still enjoy ROF.

So for me, the EA price sounds like a great deal when you look at what you're getting,(compared to the original ROF release), If I get half as much enjoyment out of FC as I did from ROF, I'll consider it money well spent.

I'd say its worth the money, 10 planes and an upgraded engine, better graphics by far. The 10 planes we are getting is about all we fly for the most part in ROF so right there we are winning.

A better editor from what I here too, which is a plus. The new Dserver program is better than ROF as well from what I read. less taxing on windows machines. As long as we don't have to wait too long for more planes I'm happy. And a map we can work with.

Just jumped into this in VR in a SPAD in quick mission.  Flew/Fly ROF ICE for years.  Wow.. just wow.. this will be worth it IMO.. what I had been hoping for out of ROF once I went to VR.

Just my opinion for thought.

If you like flight sims and ww1 planes, its worth it. As for high price for early access, i dont think so, because its not "part" of the sim you get ( spad and fokker ), its price of full flying circus v1.
