If someday I shot down a fighter in MP, I owe you all a beer, lol. Hello everyone. Well, today finally I managed to get my first kill in MP, in "berloga" server. Probably will never forget this day (lol), I shoted down an allied fighter (really dont remember which one) while flying a 109F4. I admit it wasnt the best score in the world (the guy was distracted after shoting down a plane himself), so I guess I was just in the right place at the right moment. After that, I couldnt shot down any other plane. So I switched and flight the Spitfire IX for the first time (flight it before in SP, but in "explore" mode, not even against AI)... and man, that was kinda easy (or maybe its just because was fighting against 109's from 1940-1942, idk). I think I managed to shot down 3 or 4 human enemies (and 9 or 10 bots). Didnt know the spit was THAT EASIER (in comparisson to a german plane of course), that even I managed to shot down a human player. Of course im not a Spit PRO pilot, but I think a noob like me can perform much better on one of those instead a german plane. Well, but I wanted more (lol). I was in a "good streak" and was happy so I said myself... gonna try with the 190 A-3... why not?. So I reached I think 3K of altitude, and after some time checking below me, I saw a (yak1?, didnt see well) which was attacking a 109 G2 on deck. So I just dived over him and did a fast attack... which ended on the Yak 1 being completely destroyed by the love of 190's guns. You cant imagine how happy I felt in that moment, lol. So well, I think I owe you all a beer, just as I promised. Gonna pay it if some of you come to my country someday! lol Thanks for all the input, for the nice and noob-friendly responses, and for the support. Now I want to master that beast the 190 is, which of course gonna take time, but at least I feel confident enough with it (and with 109's too). F. 5
Ehret Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 With planes like the FW-190 (or the P-39 - she's similar in tactics) the major point is to not overstay your welcome. Come fast, do your stuff fast and be gone fast. The Spit has very good acceleration, superb pull and (probably) best guns in the game. Sure you can mess around in the Spit especially in the IXe.
kalbuth Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 (edited) Berloga is a setup made for Allies airplanes more than Axis, it's favoring turnfights. That's what make Allies planes like Spit look like easy after a run in 109. That said, plenty of 109/190 on Berloga have an easy time pulling maneuvers to get on my 6 when I fly Allies so it's not an unfeasible feat to win in 109 But congrats, I know the feeling Edited August 20, 2018 by kalbuth 2
D3adCZE Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Berloga is perfect place to learn close quarter knife fights. However energy fighting and teamwork is impossible to find there. *points at 190 flat turning with yak1b* 1

My "goals" in this game would be to shot down someone in a "missions" server like Wings of liberty or the like. But I guess berloga and such servers are, as already pointed, great for practicing?

The important thing is that you have a good time. Wings of Liberty it is possible to fly around for 45 minutes and only have one or two encounters. Berloga I think is very useful for knowing what your plane can and cannot do. I love playing on some of the more hardcore servers. I still use Berloga to try and stay sharp

MasserME262 Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 Welp, today I joined the same server to keep playing happily... but the only thing I did was to get brecked. Couldnt shot down anyone with the 190, and just one human player, with a Spit IX. So I can confirm yesterday was just lucky. I guess its time to stop playing and to keep reading everyone's suggestions instead, since it has no sense on joining the server for just getting brecked by the "PROs". Or just leave completely the game and die happily as the one who was "Ace in his first day in berloga". Lol.

I have literally put 110 hours into it in the last few months and I still am bad compared to the best. It will take time and dedication to really get good, and that's what I love. I am at 178 hours according to steam, I also played quite a bit from the launcher before they did the steam link. So probably over 200 hours, you got this. Edited August 20, 2018 by 15th_JonRedcorn

There is no shame in getting wasted by pilots that have a thousand times your experience. Most important is also that you get better situation awareness. Just keep flying, stay with your friends, try staying alive at least for a bit. It is rare in Berloga that you win because you fight better than the other. I find that 95% of all scoring is done to peeps not knowing or not caring you were there. You just shoot them. If it comes to close combat with someone that that is aware of you and takes the fight, try your best and try to understand why he'll best you. They are your teachers. Also, there are different "difficulty levels" on Berloga. There are times where the server is stacked with the pros. So in later evenings Central European time, when there is no soccer on TV, Berloga is staked with totally FUBAR fighters. At other times, you find more casual players, being loners, trying to find an opponent. They are fair game then and things are much easier. Victims amongst themselves basically.- Generally put, when you are going online, leave your ego at the door.
THERION Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Don't give up - keep going! First of all, whether you fly on BERLOGA or any other server, try to stay alive. To me, this is the first step in flying on MP and should be your goal too. Stay alive, observe the situation and try to pick up a good opportunity for you to attack with the least risk. Therefore you need to stay alive as long as possible, know your advantage, your position and the position of your prey - always know what you are doing. Knowing what to do and not to do is the key to success in air combat. This implies that you have knowledge of your plane (strengths / flaws) and of the opponents plane too. If you know what you can do with your plane, then this is a first step to success. I'm absolutely not an air combat ace at all, but it helped me very much flying online. Have some reading too - this forum has a lot of good stuff here. Cheers

Try to find someone to fly with you, flying with a wingman is a lot easier and much more fun! Even better if you can find someone experienced on the game to fly with you, so he can teach you and give you some tips/hints.

I've had days where I was on the top of my game shooting down enemies, perfectly aware of the tactical situation around me, nailing my deflection shots on the first try, and then there are other days where I miss every shot and couldn't get my brain around the scenario. Keep practicing and keep playing and, as the other folks say, have fun otherwise there's no real point. You'll have those frustrating moments but hopefully you enjoy more than you don't. 1
ITAF_Rani Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) I suggest to try in multiplayer like a real scenario ( for example WOL where gps can help ypu during navigation) And organize your mission in this way. Where take off Where have to go : What kind of attak perform ( I suggest if you have don t have enough practice don 't intercept targets below 2-3k) Take care of your plane like you have only one. This kind of approach imo don t provide you maybe many kill but the way to know your plane and training yourself to the fight. Usually the losses come from a bad view of the situation and from a bad pianification. Try to take pleasure from have performed your task (patrolling, bombing, have made intercept over your targets) and have returned to your base safe and sound. On line you see many people make a lot of kill but die quite often. A good player imo is one who perform his mission but don t die so often, don t be afraid to make kill at any cost, expecially the first time. Edited August 21, 2018 by ITAF_Rani 2
III/JG52_Al-Azraq Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 You can join Sheriff's Discord, there is a lot of friendly people there to fly with. I am also myself a beginner and will start joining MP next week or so, please feel free to add me to Steam if you like to wing up and learn together with more experienced pilots: https://steamcommunity.com/id/francesc_pego/ Also here you have Sheriff's Discord: https://discord.gg/CcEgS7D
FTC_Riksen Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Masser, I offered to help you but you turned it down ... The offer still stands if you wish.

I like the "try to survive, good players dont die often" part. I mean, I think its key to learn how and when to attack. For example, yesterday I was flying the 190 at 3K of height, and tried to carefully pick my targets before going on a dive and attack. Sadly, every time I dived, missed my shots, but at least I survived long time. Of course I still need to practice, but I guess your idea is a key for any noob trying to improve. Thanks!
