What separates a Tank sim from a run and gun shoot em up or sniper duel, for heavy metal, when it comes to multiplayer ?

Without organized battles like in 'FNBF' or with something like a 'Ground Marshall', I would say pretty much nothing, exept maybe better graphics. My guess is the default action will be short range duells or gangbangs with several T-34s surrounding one Tiger, shooting on 200m.

This is basically a requirement due to the Russian tanks we will be getting in-game. None of them have the ability to penetrate a Tiger or Panther from more than 500m unless it's a flank shot (until we get the 152 and 122). Meanwhile the Germans get guns that can really excel at range, with the Tiger it is very easy to get long range shots on target, the farthest I've ever gotten so far is around 1800-2000m on a moving T-34.

Ah, give Tank Crew some time to develop before judging how battles will play out in the future. :salute:

It was not meant as critisism of the game, but my opinion on the way MP works. Without any kind of organization, like you have in the squadrons in the flightsim, it usually will be the duell shooting, I mentioned above. But maybe, there will form up some virtual tank companies for TC, like the squadrons you have in the flightsim.

Perhaps players will eventually be able to control a section (2) tanks or a platoon of (4) tanks. Much like a flight. That would spice things up a bit. ?

From DD 195

"As we see things now, the Tank Commander role is shaping up to be the most interesting one - you'll be able to command your crew, give orders to your unit as a whole or any particular tank under your command. On Expert difficulty level, you'll do all this from your seat inside the tank relying only on the visual information which has been possible to obtain in real life."

Yes, but the visual information not only from your eyes, but from your crew, and the other crews under your command as well, I hope. This will be an important thing for the game play, to get enemy information from AI.

One more thing I just saw in a youtube video. To make it a sim, AI tanks at the frontline definitely have to be without headlights on. No one would drive around with headlights on, showing him the fifty meters in front of his tank, but showing his tank to enemies kilometers away.

The developers would do well to plan out what standard of gameplay they are aiming for, then develop the game accordingly.  It’s a much better solution than blindly building a list of machines and a map, then realizing they have given only the most rudimentary and nebulous thoughts as to how their customers are supposed to enjoy themselves with the things.

This.

And it would be nice if they would tell us about their plans, so we know what we can expect to get, when purchasing the game.

And hopefully they follow the threads about TC, to see, what their customers would like to experience in the game.
