Will BOS fully support 3D Vision ? Without tweeks like Hellix for RoF.

Posted

When I read this from the anoucement "Full HD dev version of Oculus Rift tuning was completed last week. Thanks to our programming team, the game is absolutely compatible with this new technology" my heart was starting to beat heavier, I naifly thought that this weekend release was going to be finally enabled, but after updating the game was as last week , no rift.

So, well done guys. You did it. It is now absolutely compatible with Full HD dev. But why are you telling us this heart attacking information if it is not enabled in the game???

So please, two logical questions:

- When will it be enabled?

- Will the first DK kit (1280x800) be supported?

Alpha is for testing, isn´t it?

We are not testers, we are people who get to play about with it early, not proper testers.

Yes, BUT as a general rule of thumb in software development it is easier to identify and fix simple errors in a application early in the development cycle rather than later. Also with a project a big as a modern combat flight sim it is impossible for the developers to identify every single trivial error in the program. By posting these error on forums like these it gives the developers an opportunity to recognize that an error exists, prioritize it and determine how they would like to deal with the issue.

As a Combat Flight Sim Enthusiast I, like many,  am willing to put up with minor issues and use workarounds to enjoy the experience. Others are not so forgiving.

That said the most appropriate place for raising any issues would be the "technical issues and bug reports forum created to discuss these issues.

Something that messed up all my settings.

Have to remap all!

LOL! Same here.

Me too: my guesses at the moment include:

1) Moving temp dial on Me109

2) Longer draw distance for the spritey building shells

3) Correction to FM on gear/flap behavior

But it could all be an illusion!

So what's in the 61 Mb update?

Founder's skins (109 "Bubbi" and LaGG-3 "Comrade") are back in the skins folder and are listed in the setup... but can't be selected.

sim is running much better since they did the graphics lock down. saves me time messing with settings trying to get what im after.

Seems to me that force feedback (JS shaking when firing guns, more stiffness at higher speeds) is more pronounced now.

Apparently no one is saying, however I would be very surprised if they limited it to pre-sets in the final public release. Even ROF allows much customization.

Maybe they could add customisation without support so if you have a graphics problem and you aren't usin the pre sets bad luck.

It would keep down their workload while allowing the adventurous to be able to delve into the smaller details of the graphics engine.

All in all a very good update! Thank you!

Really? I made only one short 'wobble test' but had the impression it is also better now. To be honest, I thought it is really good now :-)

Gonna test it again...

Strange, mine does, and it's the first time it has.

Flew the ground attack mission a few times this morning in the Lagg with this new update.

I went back to Ultimate settings, and unlimited framerates.

My impressions:

Flight Model :feels same to me as last weekend, however last weekend's update seemed to improve the flight model of the Lagg making it a little easier to control and land. I do still have the pitch wobble though as well, perhaps not to the extreme it was, but I think it could use a little more tuning.

Graphics:  the " muddy goggles" effect when moving view in cockpit with Ultimate setting ( SSAO), is much improved. I still see it a little, but certainly not bad enough to make me not use it now. Don't know if they have lowered SSAO, or if they have tweaked it, but it is better.

Smoke fading in and out when turning to view it, does not happen near like it was , seems to stay on and be more consistent. However, perhaps at a little cost to framerate, as my frame rates best as I can recall were slightly better in last weekend's build. Still very usable for me on ultimate setting ( 50's-60's normally, 40's when fighting over Stalingrad).

Performance: As mentioned I believe I lost a little in the fps department in Ultimate setting compared to last week, however in fairness I did not fly Ultimate very long last week due to the SSAO effect I was seeing in the cockpit, flew mostly on balanced.

However also, last week I was getting major stuttering and single digit fps while strafing ground targets, this build does not seem to be so bad. Little slowdown on first strafing run in mission, but settles in and is pretty smooth overall.

Ground Attack: My hit rate has not improved at all, I really suck at this - when is this bug going to be addressed?? :)

I am going to have to experiment with high and balanced settings as well and see how it performs and looks compared to Ultimate.

Obviously they updated something, would be kind of nice if they would let us know what they updated...

Performance:

Odd.  I thought there was to be no update of files this week.

I think it was more of no new content this week. They have made a small changed in tweaking something, obviously SSAO was tweaked in some manner. I picture a handful of guys in a room saying " ok let's change this and this, and push it out in a small update, not tell them what it is, and see if they even notice and comment on it" lol.

Oh one other thing I forgot to mention in my impressions post ( too late to edit).

GPU Boost - when in Ultimate settings, it runs the whole mission with my GPU Boost on full. There are certainly times that it is not needed, though not sure if that is an Nvidia thing or a BOS thing...

Ok, made again the 'wobble test' and say: the wobbling is gone :clapping: (Tested only Bf109, not LaGG)

The FM of Bf109 appears (for me) really believable now - wonderful :salute:

Yes, map still shaking (but no big deal for me ;) ).

A 61mb panacea perhaps?

Someone spoke of two new skins.

Ok so experimented around with High and Balanced Presets:

High - definitely better performance ( around 7-10 fps) over Ultimate, however - SSAO is ugly with High settings, does not look as good as Ultimate or Balanced. SSAO in High setting could use some tweaking - or better yet - allow US the option of adjusting SAO individually, rather than hardcoded into a preset.

GPU Boost behaved more normally on High.

Balanced - slightly better performance than High, however my severe stuttering when strafing ground targets came back on Balanced mode. GPU Boost stayed kicked in for the most part on Balanced preset.

Honestly! Strange that it is not the same for you. I use curves for pitch and yaw, maybe this also helps for me?

Well, now I'm curious what others say...

The pitch wobble is still there for me in the Lagg, and I have a curve set for it as well - rudder is there as well, thought not as bad as the pitch.

Imho, both of these need tweaking.

I also notice that so far < knocking on wood >, making changes/adjustments in the controller section has not froze the game up on me.

I also do not have the bouncing map any more.

Funny!! it shake with Bf-109 and not with LaGG (tested again two munites far) ;)

After this weekends' patch i am not able to review last weeks' or older flight records. Maybe i missed a message from dev Team?!

When loading a file from i. e. January 20th the window turns grey, showing inside cockpit after some seconds, but mouse disappeared, screen freezes, only I can hear engine/plane starting, in background tiny window opened saying: "can't load file'. Trying to load older files, a message appears with code bla bla ...

The tracks i did today are working.

Just tried the new patch!  (Not played since before Christmas due to illness) works well on my system, get the shaky map in the hangar screen on th 'free flight' Stalingrad full map, but not on the ground attack mission. Controls were saved from last time.

Posted

Controller Dead Zones are resetting to 0 again after each restart of BOS.

I thought this was fixed in a previous build , or maybe I dreamed that?

It's looking better each week.

When I can make simple missions like this and fly them

I will be over the moon.

The quality could be better due to computer limitations.

Bah...I'm feeling a (much welcome) less jumpy-pitch in the 109 too; I think.  Feels more steady in the gun-platform department!

A straight-up, here's-what-we-included in the 61-MB update would be nice right about now. :P

Well, it's no big deal ..., I couldn't remember if we have had windsocks a week ago and wanted a review.

I suppose that is related to the progress in graphics from patch to patch. Maybe I have to find a prog to "film" my flight records to save them.
