Any chance we can turn the dirty lens SSAO effect off with this release? SSAO is horrible in every game pretty much. I don't mind the other graphical presets so much but something like this needs to always be an option that can be switched off.

I was looking forward to potentially seeing the Il2 this weekend, however the end result with a brilliant, well polished release in Spring is far more important.

 

The Peshka is looking really nice too!

Thanks for update. A little bit disapointed but ok, I understand it is a hard job to assure new stuff every week.

 

Just a question to Zak ,  as you seems to already use the Oculus Rift:  How to manage keyboard when your eyes are "enclosed" in the Oculus Rift???

I was away over Christmas so have not played BoS for a while, and will be disappointed if we still get the 'dirty goggles' SSAO effect with this release.IF its a bug, it is one that should be addressed as it really spoils the game for me.

As we are now facing another weekend without new content,can we at least have a slight chance to see flyable sturmovik in next session?If not possible,at least non-flyable AI Stuka to aim my Shvak at :joy:

Peshka looks good.Just wonder why UB of rear gunner is lying turned 90 degrees left from gunner poin of view.Or is it my eyes playing tricks on me  :scratch_one-s_head:

Thanks for the update.  I think a lot of us (me) are getting a little spoiled looking for new content every week.  Since I know you are reading this I hope you plan on modeling exhaust on the 109.  Just thought I'd throw that in.

That Pe-2 interior is looking good, I now have a new aircraft to sit and wait for the IL2. 

 

Just wondering seen as there's no new update any chance of the server/access being released earlier today....  ;)

Hmm, if you follow the vertical ammo feed in the last picture (that's a large ammo box!), I think we see the aiming periscope and partially the rear/belly UB, facing backwards and slightly downwards.

I know this counts for nothing (given that there will be a Fw 190) but the Bk 3.7 gunpods were not used before late April/early May 1943 on the Taman Peninsula - they're deceidedly out of place in a Stalingrad setting.

Secondly I need to stress that weapons beyond the 500kg range (SC 500 and SD 500) were considered special ordnance by the Luftwaffe and their use had to be ordered by the Fliegerkorps or even Luftflotte. It wouldn't do for the campaign to be flown constantly with SC 1800 "Satan" bombs when the bread&butter loadout was with SC 50s and SC 250s or 500s.

 

I think those loadouts reflect that this sim will (if it sells well, obviously) branch out into later periods and theatres. Mission designers will surely be able to restrict loadouts and planesets to historical correctness.

will be both versions of the WB-81 MG81 pods be modelled? the last stream showed only the B version, the one with firing 15 degrees down. i my opinion the A version, firing forward and aimed with the Revi is more usefull without softtargets like infantrie.....

 

You would think that with such a minor difference both will be modelled.

Since there has been no change I would think it is still there. I do not like it either, however you can set " Balanced" as a graphics preset and it pretty much gets rid of it. The sim still looks very good with whatever balanced setting preset gives.

Actually there's no way to do it properly. The OR ddevelopers are probably searching for a way to solve this issue but nothing has been shown as of yet. So jsut make sure that the keyboard is somewhere in front of you and try to hit right keys :)

LOL!!!!   no thank you Zak!!! in front of me, is the Joystick (main place as you can imagine!!!!)...well, let's go and see improvements before to go further with that new technology.... ;)

The bonuses are not so good. 

 

1. Sirens were removed from D models for  a reason. (airflow  plus addition weight)

2. 1800 bomb is semi ok. It was a fortress buster but then again how many fortresses there will be in stalingrad map? It needs a proper airfield anyway. Small runway will be not enough.

3. Additional armor is fully historic and ok.

4. The gunpods semi ok.

5. 37mm gun not so good. At this time frame it was only in testing phase in october 42 only one  aicraft had it by special request. Yes it was used in 43 on D models but that was after battle of stalingrad and operation uranus. So i would love to have those babies but how realistical it is if everyone will have them?

 

 

Bonuses should be selected by historical accuracy. I know it can be quite boring if the bonus is not a wtfomgpawn machine but there can be different bonuses. There are many pilots who wrote their stories and somethink from them could be selected to serve as bonus content,

No, we must push new technology quickly, allow the pioneers to develop new ways of doing things so we can move on from keyboards.

Intense discussion of graphical presets turned to be almost as hot as we expected. We accepted that feedback and resumed work according to the plan.

 

 

So, what's the plan with the presets? Are you intending to keep only presets available for the release, or plan top reintroduce custom settings? 

 

 

Eight-nine out of ten people don't want to have only presets, you know that, right? And you are still going to do it that way?

Apparently no one is saying, however I would be very surprised if they limited it to pre-sets in the final public release. Even ROF allows much customization.

Thanks for the update info.  Agree the models look really nice in pics provided.  Looking forward to flying them.

 

Question: Were there any tweaks or changes discovered needed to address the crash to desktop issues reported from last weeks testing ?

 

Possibly tied to ATI cards...but I don't know or see the holistic picture that you Devs do through all the input you receive from users and test yourselves internally.

Back on topic, the Peshka looks fantastic. Really looking forward to flying it. BTW, I seem to remember from a Russian video on the Pe-2 that dive-bombing was restricted to external bombloads only (probably true of other bombers too) - something that the developers need to implement? Not sure quite how though - maybe disable release of internal loads if the plane was more than say 30° nose down?

I didn't see any Stuka unlocks for JDAM??? JDAM was developed in 1942.

With Full-HD and Oculus Rift, are you using the new Oculus Rift "Crystal Cove"? And if, is it a major difference comparing with the first generation of Oculus?

Gents, this early access sessions starts at approx. 23:00 UTC/GMT. From 22:00 till 23:00 the game won't update either, after that you'll be able to login and play.

How come? Game's engine is a PC engine and we're not developing a console game.

 

Just in response to this, you probably misread the question.

 

He asked why we don't have customizable settings, precisely because it is a PC game and not a console game.

Please make the SSAO (dirty goggle effect) optional.  There are three issues in this for me: 1) if your life depends on seeing the enemy, you'd actually 'clean' your goggles.  The ingame goggles appear filthy at best.  2) If the RAF (don't know about the LW or VVS) is anything to go by, goggles were only worn at certain times during an operational flight (during combat or during an emergency).  3) it makes the game graphics look sub-par.

Sorry to ask here, will the StuKa be only avaible on release day or will it be on pre relase (as the Fw and the LaGG) as well. Tempted to buy this sim only to fly the StuKa with the 37mm guns.

Does this mean that the Dev's have access to an HD Rift or are they just prepared for it when it does become available ?  If the Dev's have access, I WANT A REVIEW, bugger being polite or saying please, I ...... WE, need a full description of it's use in BoS, strong points, week points, everything, leave nothing out.

So it seems that the devs stick to their graphical  preset scheme. This must be a premier in pc game development. I hope they rething their approach for the release version and implement a way to tune the graphic settings to what each individual players wants. I would not mind if tuning the settings would require more advanced computer skills if this is really that what worries them most.

 

To say that the graphical presets had been hotly discussed is imho an euphemism. As far as I recollect the feedback that I've read on this forum, a pronounced majority rejected this approach at least for the release version.

How do you turn MODS ON/OFF for the 2 new skins we get to play with?

 

Whenever I go to select them it says the skin has been modified and cannot be played with in MODS OFF mode.

Yes the OR development team are looking at ways to alleviate the problem for the keyboard challenged.. :)   That said anyone with a decent Hotas system can map most of the requirements and add Voice Activation Software for the rest including Wingman and Tower communication.

When I read this from the anoucement "Full HD dev version of Oculus Rift tuning was completed last week. Thanks to our programming team, the game is absolutely compatible with this new technology" my heart was starting to beat heavier, I naifly thought that this weekend release was going to be finally enabled, but after updating the game was as last week , no rift.

 

So, well done guys. You did it. It is now absolutely compatible with Full HD dev. But why are you telling us this heart attacking information if it is not enabled in the game???

 

So please, two logical questions:

- When will it be enabled?

- Will the first DK kit (1280x800) be supported?

 

Alpha is for testing, isn´t it?
