It depends on the version. Sometimes they were hand dropped, sometimes they were dropped from a tube, sometimes they were dropped from internal bays, and sometimes from underwing pods... different approaches were experimented with... You can see some photos in this thread:

I dunno, flying at head height and at driving speed would make you a really easy target...

 

...although it would also let you lean over the side and give you a good shot at the enemy gunners with your pistol, so there’s that.

This would be a good Dev Update subject actually. We don't have many details on the Po-2's capabilities in IL-2.

 

It'd be nice to know if it has any weapons and what it can carry if it does.

I read on the russian forum that the Po-2 will have radio equipment and forward facing gun modifications.
