[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Hello!! Just wanted to ask if the smoke screen launchers would be useable down the line? and since the ai can pretty much see through anything, will they be effective? 1
Legioneod Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) This is very much needed for multiplayer. The range at which the engagements happen (start) give the Tiger a very large advantage. The Tiger can't really be penned and it can kill everything at large distances. Smoke launchers or smoke rounds would give us a better chance to flank and maneuver around them. Smoke would be a very good addition to the game, Tigers and most German tanks would have smoke dispensers while the Russians would mostly have tank smoke rounds. Smoke would allow us to get out of sticky situations as well, if we come under fire and need to retreat we can use smoke to cover us and blind the enemy. Smoke tanks wouldn't have smoke of course, the ferdinand for instance never use smoke of any kind as far as I'm aware. Though nothing can penetrate it from the front at any range so it's not really needed for the Ferdinand anyways. Edited July 25, 2018 by Legioneod
JaffaCake Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Smoke screens are not as good or long lasting as people think. Its a way to buy yourself 10-20 seconds to get back into cover when you come under fire. Not a screen that somehow would allow you to flank your target. Any wind also mostly makes them ineffective - even the modern smoke launchers.

I'm not expecting them to last for a long time but they need to be added. Also, even small screen of 10-20 seconds would allow you to get out of your targets view and possibly on the flank in short time. Even if the screen dissipated before you get on the enemy flank if would at least disorint the enemy and cause him to lose sight of you, this would give you an advantage and would allow you to keep heading for the flank. Also, wind effects on smoke and ballistics isnt modeled in the game anyways (besides bombs I think) so that really doesn't matter. There is a reason we still use smoke to this day, it works and is effective. The video below is with modern vehicles but you can see how effective the smoke is at obscuring yourself or the enemies view even if it's only for a short time. Edited July 25, 2018 by Legioneod
migmadmarine Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Also, especially for the Reds, the ability to have one or two tanks set up in a fire support position and keep chucking smoke in front of the enemy while the other tanks close in.

I find that around 10-20 seconds of smoke is about the maximum that the game produces.
